"Mom are you done?" Seth asked as he knocked on the door.
"Yes, Dear." She said as she opened the door.
April's eyes darted to the mother's bag and then to the nightstand in her room. She looked at the medication on the nightstand and wondered why she left it.
"Ms. Roman, I believe you left some medication on your night stand. We might need it, I suggest you pack it." April wasn't a control freak by any means but she knew she had to crack down on this woman, as much as it was against her nature.
"It's empty." She replied.
Seth brushed past her and grabbed the bottle of pills and shoved it into his own bag.
His mother scrunched her face with a tinge of anger.
"Let's go." Seth said.
The group of three made their way down the stairs. April and Seth peered through the curtain in the living room and saw nothing. April headed for the foyer but was pulled back by Seth.
"April I think we should go out the back." His voice lowered significantly. "My mom wouldn't be able to handle the bodies on the porch."
"Okay, you to can go that way, but I'm taking the direct route. It's safer, and I need to stay alive for my family." She replied in an annoyed tone. This bitch was already becoming a problem and April wasn't having it.
"But-"
Before he could say anymore she dashed into the foyer.
I'm not playing games, this bitch isn't going to control me.
April looked back and saw Seth had already trudged away to the back. She opened the door silently and poked her head out. She saw nothing and slipped out. She closed the door and tiptoed off the porch as her eyes darted around. Once she made it to the bottom of the stairs she darted across the lawn and popped the car open. She dove in the drivers seat and waited.
It shouldn't take them this long right? They should already be here right?
Then she heard a feminine scream and snarling.
Oh fuck my life.
She cocked her gun and jumped out of the car. She saw a few walkers shuffling down the street towards the screaming.
The only good thing that could come of this is the bitch's death.
She ran around the side of the house and found Seth's ungated backyard. She located the source of the screaming and watched momentarily as Seth played tug-a-war with a biter. His mother was screaming her bloody head off and April saw zombies advancing from almost every angle. April lifted her gun and shot at the walker, it flew backward when she hit it in the head.
Years of trap can really make someone's aim impeccable.
"COME ON! WE HAVE TO GET OUT OF HERE, THERE'S WALKERS CRAWLING ALL OVER THE PLACE."
His mother was still screaming as he tugged her along. Unable to stand her weakness, April marched right up to her and backhanded the harpy.
"SNAP OUT OF IT OR I WILL KILL YOU!" April flicked the gun in her hands for emphasis. She wasn't bluffing, she had it in her to kill someone if need be.
She picked up the woman off the ground and threw her forward. April was not in the mood for bullshit, her life was on the line. She grabbed Seth by collar and Seth grabbed his mother's hand. After making her point to start running, she let go and raced to the car. Zombies swarmed the perimeter, but there was still a way to get to the car. April shot some of the biters along the way to clear their path and the trio made it to the grey Chevy.
