As I leave the building of the school at 3:45 I can't help but feel anxious for what the announcement could be. I can feel the anxiety and see it on all of the other kids faces as well, most coming from the younger kids, like ten and under, as the older ones try to keep a calm face. Especially ones with younger siblings. "Hey! Wait up!" Emerald yells at me, and I can tell that she's fast jogging and probably about five meters away from me right now without even turning around. As I stop and turn around I see her weaving through the other kids coming this way, "hey, why didn't you wait? We always walk home together" "oh, right, sorry. I guess I was just caught up with the announcement" I say trying to act like I forgot, but in all honesty I just wanted to walk alone. "Alright, so do you wanna hang out?" Emerald asks "No, I have to get home and finish my homework" I say gesturing to the notebook in my hand "ok, I guess I should do mine too. What question are you on?" She asks "um, question three, you?" "Um, I think question five" she says as we arrive at her doorstep. "Ok, bye, I'll see you tomorrow" I say walking away "bye" she calls after me. As I walk home, the whole time all i can think about is what the announcement could possibly be.

Once I'm inside my house, the first thing I do is check the time. 3:55, perfect, I have five minuets to wash the dishes before my mom gets back. Note the sarcasm, at least we only have a couple dishes. As I finish off the last dish, I check the time again and see that it's 4:15, where is she? She is always home at 4:00. Now suddenly I'm thinking back to when I was living at the orphanage, when I was five months old and my brother was two we where sent to the community home of District six, otherwise know as the orphanage. We lived there for two years until one day this women came in looking for a child. As she was looking at the babies I wandered into the nursery to see who she was. The head of the orphanage shooed me away so I went back to the toddlers room. Even though my brother was four and a male he was still staying in the same room as me. I think because I was so young, so they thought that I needed my brother with me, even though he was really young at the time too. Although, he acted a lot more mature then most four year olds act, and to be honest I did need my brother around me during the night, because of the nightmares. Anyways, I was only two, so I didn't understand what adopting meant at the time so I wasn't really worried about it. This women came into the room to find me and then asked me a couple questions "how old are you?" I put up two fingers "do you have any siblings?" What's a sibling? I thought "oh, a brother or sister?" She asked as she realized I didn't understand, I nodded and said "Klaxon" and pointed to my brother who was on his bed watching us. The women left and then came back two hours later and said that she was adopting us. She packed our bags, which wasn't much, just a bracelet, a doll and three pair of clothes for me, and two books and four pairs of clothes for my brother, and showed us to her car. At that time, the war hadn't started yet, so we still had things like cars and food. As we got in, she told us everything. Her husband died from a disease two years ago when she was expecting a baby, she had a miscarriage, so she decided two months before adopting us that she would adopt a baby, but when she saw me, she decided that she would adopt us instead.
