Malakai could still hear the click-clack of heels trying to catch up to him. He still kept his pace and took a sharp right down the corridor.

"Malakai, wait!" Venus shouted.

He kept walking straight ahead without turning back. The sound of her steps stopped soon after.

Maybe she had finally gotten the hint.

Just as he finished that thought he got smacked in the head by something. He turned around to see Venus, barefoot, pattering over with her dress hiked up and a shoe in one hand. She was breathing heavy by the time she slipped back into her heels.

"Nice aim." He commented.

"Uh, thanks...I didn't know how else to get your attention," she answered honestly.

Venus looked up at him, eyebrows sloping downward. He looked away.

"She had good intentions. All they want to do is help."

"I don't need help!" Malakai exclaimed. He took a deep breath and lowered his tone.

"I don't need help now. Maybe when I was a kid it would've been useful. What could they possibly tell me that I don't already know?"

Venus threw her hands up in the air.

"Were you not paying attention today?! They found somebody whose blood does the opposite of yours! Doesn't that interest you even a little bit?"

"Not really."

Venus huffed and crossed her arms.

"I don't believe you. I think you're lying." She accused.

"Oh V, come on! Don't play this game!" He groaned.

She shook her head and lifted her chin up proudly.

"I think you're lying because you're scared. For the first time ever you aren't the most valued thing in our solar system and that's why you're pouting."

"I'm not pouting! And I definitely am not scared of him or whatever weird scenario you've come up with to justify why I don't care!" He defended.

Venus was silent for a moment, letting her arms relax a bit before she revved up again.

"Well if you're not scared of him then you must like him."

Malakai let his jaw drop.

"Okay, so your logic is if I'm not scared of him, I must like him? How does that make ANY sense?!"

"It's simple. You're afraid to work on the project because you think he's so perfect and you're intimidated. That, or you're scared he'll be better than you at something."

Malakai closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose.

"I just met him, aren't I allowed to have a neutral opinion on him? You can't just go around- Hey! Where are you going?"

"I made my points. Now I'm getting ready for the reception." Venus replied while walking away.

He stood in the middle of the empty hallway.

"I'm not scared. What's there to be scared of?"
