Chapter 6

I'd been banging on that door for what felt like hours. My adrenaline was pumping and I could feel my hands shaking. Fuck...Fuck, fuck, fuck!

I was in the trials.

I was in the fucking trials.

I screamed, loud. Banging my fists against the door as hard as I could, wincing when I felt my knuckle split open. You can't afford to be stupid May, you don't have your wolf yet, you won't heal.
I was 17, another few months until my birthday when my wolf emerged, and then only when completing the trials and being assigned a pack would I be able to shift without repercussions.

Be smart.

No way out. Either complete the trials or die trying, only two options.

I took a deep breath, I couldn't get angry. I couldn't get too emotional. Gabe would be watching, the beta's would be watching; and I couldn't let them see that  yet, best to save that for a do or die situation, not a bare room with a contract.

The room was smaller than the previous one. There was a table with a wide chair and a plain piece of paper stuffed with words, a dotted line on the bottom and a slim fountain pen with a sharp point. I read over it thoroughly. The entire thing was just a cop out if I ever saw one.

'The council alpha's and their corresponding packs take no blame or responsibility for any harm or danger the participant may find themselves in during these trials'. I swallowed a scoff that wanted to come out. In the end, no one held any responsibility for what happened in the trials. It was a simulation, no one controlled it but you. I knew I had no choice at this point, I had to sign the contract if I ever wanted to get out-so that's exactly what I did.

As soon as I had signed my name on the dotted line, the table sank into the floor, a panel underneath was slid open and within a flash it was gone, the contract and pen in its wake.
A second later another panel opened on the front wall of the room. It was a metal plate with a black square cut out in the centre and a black slit cut out above it. A scanner.

I placed my right palm on the square softly. Red bold letters ran across the black slit.
Initialising. A sharp pain came next, pinching my fingers, it was gone as quick as it came and I withdrew my hand. Each finger had a red welt now and felt sensitive.

I wiped the blood on my dress and wobbled a bit trying to keep my balance.
Fuck! My shoes!
How in the fuck am I gonna do this in heels.
I slipped them off, now coming back down to my regular height and coming face to face with the scanner. I stretched out my feet in front of me, pointing my toes and rotating my ankles, to get the circulation going again. There was a clicking noise,  the wall shifted and the scanner  was gone.

A screen came down from the ceiling in front of the wall where the scanner was. My face was displayed on it, a picture taken as we walked through those big metal doors that lead to the main room. I looked stunned and fascinated as I took it all in, my eyes wide and my red lips parted in awe. Well, at least I'll be the best dressed. A smile formed on my face, trust me to think of how I looked right now. My name flashed on the screen with my birthdate below my picture.

The youngest participant in the trials.

I flashed back to the ethereal woman standing at the door and felt my fists clench. It was her fault I was in this mess in the first place. Who was she?

This is the first day of the rest of your life

That was all she had said in the last few seconds. The most cryptic and clichè thing she could've possibly said and for what? For fun?
