no goodbye :: penny
We arrive on Yavin the next morning, and when Luke finally comes out of his quarters so he can exit the ship, he doesn't say anything to me. He barely even looks at me.
Leia shoots me a concerned look and I shake my head at her. "Later," I mouth.
Leia introduces us to everyone, and she introduces me to a few (very attractive) young pilots who seem very interested in the fact that I'm a mechanic. Maybe I don't need Luke.
But this isn't going to last. Han, Chewie, and I are leaving, and Luke, Leia, and the droids are staying here. That's just how it goes. Luke freaked out, and I'm truly never going to see him again.
We rest up here for one night, and when the next morning comes, Han tells me it's time to go.
"I'm going to go say goodbye to Leia first," I say. "Maybe you should do the same."
"I can't believe you're leaving," Leia frowns, wrapping her arms around me tightly. "Can't you ditch that idiot? Stay here?" She and I became oddly close very quickly, but I'm not really complaining. After spending all day every day with two dudes, it's nice to spend time with an actual girl.
"I wish I could," I laugh into her shoulder, "but if I ditch him, he's gonna get himself killed."
"Is that such a bad thing?" She pulls away from the hug and I chuckle softly. "Now, are we going to talk about why the air between you and Luke has been off since yesterday morning?"

"So...you got your reward and you're just leaving then?" I ask Han, walking towards the Falcon.
"That's right, yeah! I've got some old debts I've got to pay off with this stuff, and Penny's got some big dream where she and Chewie finally fix up the Falcon for good. Even if I didn't, you don't think I'd be fool enough to stick around here, do you?" He can't leave, if he leaves, then Penny leaves, and I'll never see her- I mean them again. But then he says, "Why don't you come with us? You're pretty good in a fight. Penn and I could use you."
God, I want to so bad. "Come on! Why don't you take a look around? You know what's about to happen, what they're up against. They could use a good pilot like you. They could use a good mechanic like Penny too. But you're turning your back on them." Why do they have to leave? It would all be so much easier if they could just stay.
"What good's a reward if you ain't around to use it?" Han frowns. "Besides, attacking that battle station ain't my idea of courage. More like suicide. And don't try and rope Penny into all of this, I'm sorry you got a thing for her, but I'm not gonna let her get herself killed all because you wanna see her naked."
Why is he being so goddamn difficult? "All right. Well, take care of yourself, Han. I guess that's what you're best at, isn't it?"
I turn and storm off, and a few moments later hear him call, "Hey, Luke! May the Force be with you!" I turn back around and see him wink at me.
God, I hate him.

While I was distracted talking to Leia about Luke, she led me to his ship.
Of course, I didn't exactly realize this until he came up to us and Leia asked him what's wrong. He stole a quick glance over in my direction but didn't say anything to me, instead he answered Leia.
"Oh, it's Han! I don't know, I really thought he'd change his mind." Was he trying to convince Han to stay? Does that mean he wanted me to stay too?
"He's got to follow his own path. No one can choose it for him."
Luke turns to me and says the first thing he's said to me since I kissed him. "C'mon, Penny, you gotta convince him to stay here."
I forget how to speak for a few moments, caught by surprise by him actually acknowledging the fact that I'm standing in front of him, and completely blown away by how good he looks in the X-Wing Fighter jumpsuit. "I dunno," I finally manage, "Leia's right. He's got to go his own path, and we all know how stubborn he is."
He bites his lip and looks down at his boots. "And I suppose you're going with him, aren't you?"
"I have to," I mumble.
And then he looks up at me and I'm suddenly aware again how disgustingly blue his eyes are. "Were you at least going to say goodbye first?"
I turn to see Leia's reaction to all of this, only to find her not there. Great, thank's Leia.
"Did you want me to say goodbye?" I ask.
He looks like he's gonna kiss me. Is he? No, why would he? He ran away when I kissed him. But then why is he standing there looking at me like that?
But before he can actually answer me, a pilot rushes up to grab his arm. The two start chatting happily, and I slip away, walking back towards the Falcon. So he started talking to me again, and I didn't even get to say goodbye.

As Bigg's talking to me, I turn back around to see why Penny went so quiet.
Except she's not waiting there silently, she's walking off towards the Falcon. Great, I was gonna kiss her and I got distracted.
I didn't even get to say goodbye.

When I get to the Falcon, Han's sitting on the boarding ramp, waiting for me.
"Alright, Hannie Boy, let's get out of here," I sigh.
"Oh, c'mon, Penn,-" He shoots a crooked smile my way. "-you didn't really think we were leaving...did you?"
I sprint to find Leia.
She's in the war room, and two (really tall) guys try and keep me out before Leia realizes it's me and tells them to let me in.
"I thought you and Han were leaving!" she says, pulling me in for a tight hug.
"I did too!" I say, hugging her back. "But at the last second, he made it seem like we were never leaving in the first place."
"I guess Luke really got through to him," she laughs.
I pull away from the hug. "Where is Luke? I need to tell him that I'm not leaving."
Leia frowns. "He already left."
