"Please! Please find my son! That's all I request!"
You watch as the missing kid's mother breaks down into tears.
You'd known the kid, not well enough to be called a friend, but as an acquaintance.
You both were once in a science group and even stayed after school a little to work on the group's project.
"I'll do whatever I can, ma'am." You reply.
The lady thanks you as another officer escorts her out.
You walk into your own little office, in which you shared with Kaio.
"Of course he isn't here."
You sigh and walk over to your desk, taking a seat.
The computer in front of you already had an "evidence" folder, loaded up for you.
You open it and click on the security camera footage.
Sure enough, it was the same kid.
He looked very calm, until he steps in front of an alleyway.
Your eyes widen as the kid drops on one knee, holding his leg.
A knife had been thrown into it.
You watch as the kid suffers in pain for around 5 minutes, to see if anything else happens.
But the only thing that happened was the security camera footage being... CUT. OFF.
"What?!"
You sigh.
"I have one speculation."
- Suspect likes cutting cameras off before taking his victims away.
Once done, you skip forward a bit, until the camera footage came back on.
This time, the kid was nowhere to be seen.
The video ends and you groan, placing your head on your desk.
"This is going to take longer than expected."
You look down at the missing boy's sheet, another thought coming to mind.
"It says here he usually doesn't get off work until around 11 at night."
You find yourself suddenly digging through a stack of papers to find a copy of your late friend's missing poster.
"She didn't get off work until around the same time too."
You write down another speculation:
- Suspect could be stalking others, just to take their money (?)
You look down at the two notes, a piece of cheesecake getting shoved in your face.
You look up and smile to see Kaio.
"I think we both could use a little break." He says, with a smile.
You nod and take the cheesecake from him, thanking him for it.
"Any leads?" Kaio asks.
You show him the two notes and he nods.
"What about you?"
"All I got was that he was last seen by the neighboring town's riverbank."
He sighs.
"I just hope he stills alive. I want to see him just once more."
"Awww, Kaio! Cheer up! I'm positive he's still with us!"
Kaio turns to you and smiles.
"Thanks Y/N. That made me feel slightly better."
He takes a bite of his cheesecake and smiles.
"You gonna eat that?"
You smile at Kaio, who was currently pointing to your snack.
"Yes, I am."
You take a bite and smile.
"Where's this from? It's amazing!"
"You think so? Thank you!" Kaio says.
"Wait, you made this?"
Kaio happily nods.
"I recently got into cooking, and this is the first thing I wanted to make since it's my friend's favorite!"
"I'm sure you're friend is going to be delighted to eat this!"
Kaio blushes, before standing up and walking over to his desk.
You watch as the boy endlessly clicks the mouse.
"He's so dedicated." You say to yourself.
You turn back to your own computer and try to find some more evidence.
Shortly after, you hear Kaio's voice.
"Hello, Mr. Kambe!"
You turn towards Daisuke, who waved to Kaio.
He walked over to you and places a file folder on your desk.
"I did a bit of investigating, as well."
You look up at him like he was crazy, before opening the folder.
Inside were receipts and photos the boy recently had.
"I found this, too."
He gives you the boy's wallet and you open it.
"There's still money in this? You'd think the perpetrator would take the money as well."
"Agreed. However, I still think it's a little weird both you and Kaio knew some of the victims."
"No kidding." Kaio adds.
You look down at the missing kid's wallet.
It still had his ID picture inside, which was also strange.
"Daisuke."
"What is it?"
"Do you mind taking me back to the park? I want to check-
Before you could finish, he throws a red clutch wallet onto your desk.
You smile, looking at your friend's wallet.
"I noticed it laying against the cave wall."
You open this one as well, money and her ID card still inside.
"So I guess he's not after the money, then."
You sigh and scratch that speculation off your list.
"I think it's best if you stop here for today." Daisuke says. "You as well, Kaio."
The determined boy shakes his head.
"I promised myself I'd find my friend again. I need as much time as possible."
The older detective sighs.
"Don't stay too late."
"I won't."
"Are you ready to leave, Y/N?"
You sigh and nod.
"Bye, Mr. Kambe! Bye Y/N! Have a goodnight and stay safe!" Kaio says.
"You too, Kaio!" You reply.
He smiles as he watches the two of you walk out.
"Oh! And remember Mr. Kambe, Y/N's still a minor!"
The happy-go-lucky boy chuckles, as Daisuke responds with a "shut up."
