Chapter 6 - Bright Lights, Cold Night

"Aw..you're so cute I could just eat you up!" I say as I lift the five-year old Quin in my arms. "Not literally, but you know what I mean."

Ever since I could speak, I always asked for a younger sibling! Now that Quin is here, I feel more like an older sister than anything!

The boy giggles and goes along with whatever I do to him.

"Hey Levi, when you look close enough, it looks like Quin's your son!" I jokingly say and all of a sudden I feel tension in the air.

Turning to Levi, I see him leaned on the wall glaring at the boy in my arms. Without words, he looks at Quin as if the boy did something wrong.

Then, I felt Quin shaking in my arms. I turn and see him brimming with tears. "H-he hates me."

Feeling a tug in my heart, I glare at Levi and he jumps. "What?! He's doing that to make me look bad!" Defending himself and crosses his arms like a little kid.

Intensifying my glare, I attempt to march down to where he was sitting when I felt a tug on my shirt. My death glare turned into one that shows care when I look at Quin. "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." Tone soft and gentle.

"It's okay, Lady Aurelie. We'll get along soon." He smiles and my heart melts.

"Aw...you're such a nice kid!" Ruffling his curly hair as he giggles, I glance at Levi with death in my eyes. "Not like someone else I know." I say and he scoffs.

Setting aside Levi's childish behavior, I sit down to level Quin's eyes. "Hey, are you the same Qui who spoke to me back in the cave?" I ask, knowing that it is a little too tale to ask for a confirmation.

"Yep, that was me. We can communicate with people using our minds!" He answers cheerfully.

We Quis are heavenly creatures that reside in Eucentria. Of course, there are lots of different creatures out there too!

I hear Quin's voice resonate inside my head and I turn to Levi to confirm if he heard the same thing.

"Heard it." He murmurs softly enough for me to hear.

"Wow, that's amazing Quin!" I exclaim, finding this phenomenon more exciting than unbelievable.

The little boy scratches the back of his head in embarrassment, "Um, it's not that amazing, Lady Aurelie. Other creatures can do all sorts of cool stuff!" His eyes glimmer in excitement. "I can't wait to see them!"

"Is this your first time out?" I ask.

"Yep. I grew up inside our cave and only heard stories from the Queen or the elders. I never really got the chance to go out and explore. Maybe that's why my mom gave this mission to me." He says as he smiles wide with anticipation.

Happy for the little boy, I smile in return and pat his head. "Then, let's go explore this world together."

"Okay!" His face brightens even more and he lets out a giggle.

"Need I remind you that we are not here to explore." I hear Levi's gloomy voice behind me, breaking our moment of happiness.

The thin thread of patience I had was already nearing its limit and I slowly turn to Levi with a menacing look.
