"Somewhere amazing. Oh, and make it a Wednesday."
(Name of companion, I'ma go with Charlotte)'s words echoed through the Doctor's head. Somewhere amazing on a Wednesday. She had to be that specific. Typical Charlotte. He'd have to meet her on a Wednesday afternoon, too.
But what else was there to do? He checked the display screen for anything 'amazing'. Nothing showed. Oh, well. He'd most likely have better luck typing in some random coordinates and hoping not to materialize in the middle of a stone cliff or brick wall.
After deciding that it was boring to sit here wondering what to do, he set the TARDIS for next Wednesday, out in front of Charlotte's house.
She came bounding out, wearing a short dress, her long black hair braided into ridiculously long pigtails. To be honest, the Doctor wasn't completely sure why he had decided to make her his companion.
(please feel free to change up the companion however you like, this is literally just an excuse to write about Doctor Who but never have an actual reason to finish- *covers mouth with her own hand* Mmph! Mmph! Ah, I mean... DON'T READ THIS FOCUS ON THE PROMPT)
She smiled up at him, her ocean-blue eyes shining at the prospect of adventure.
"Got a place?" she asked.
"Yes," he lied smoothly.
"Awesome!" she fist-pumped the air and ran inside, the Doctor following with a chuckle and a shake of his head.
He typed in some random coordinates, hoping she wouldn't notice. She was far too busy seating herself comfortably in a seat that had somehow appeared in the room.
The TARDIS dematerialized, and the Doctor sat back, confident that the work was done.
The bell toll sound that it made whenever it landed sounded, and the Doctor snapped his fingers with a grin.
The doors swung open to reveal a bustling city. A large variety of humanoids hurried around, carrying things and holding children's hands.
"It's Wednesday, right?" Charlotte asked.
The Doctor considered saying something, then just nodded his head.
Suddenly there was a movement in the crowd, a flash of dull metal.
"What's that?" Charlotte was suddenly at his side, pointing to the very same spot he had been looking at.
"I'm not sure," the Doctor grinned. "Shall we go see?"
She grabbed his hand and yanked him out of the TARDIS. He freed himself from her iron grip and continued running with his own free will.
As they pushed through the crowd, a few children tugged on their parents arms to stop and point, and people stopped to watch the duo hurry through.
Eventually they discovered the source of the flash.
The Dalek studied them with it's eyepiece critically, as if silently judging them. The Doctor froze. Charlotte cocked her head at it.
"What is it?" she asked.
"A Dalek," he replied, breathing heavily.
"I am not an 'it'," it said. "I have a name, you know. Gosh, rude." And it rolled away, leaving the Doctor shocked and Charlotte... just confused.
"What was that all about?" she asked, looking up at the Doctor. "Why'd you act so weird? You don't normally act that weird around aliens. That was supposed to be my job."
"I'm not dead," the Doctor looked at his hands as if to make sure they were still there.
"You're definitely 'not dead'," Charlotte replied. "I'd know if you were dead, trust me."
"But, then, how... I thought I'd tried everything... and yet here it is..."
"Doctor, you aren't dead, but you are not okay, either," Charlotte said. "What's so bad about Daleks? And if they were so bad, why didn't you tell me about them earlier?"
The Doctor watched soundlessly as the Dalek disappeared into the crowd. No one seemed to notice anything was wrong at all. Someone even smiled at waved. The Doctor shook his head. He needed some fresh air. He was just having a weird dream, that was all. Looking around, he now realized that they were everywhere.
Daleks working on buildings, Daleks in the crowd, Daleks talking to other people. The Doctor's head began to spin.
So, this prompt is kind of weird, but basically there's a place in the universe where the Daleks are nice. Call it whatever you like, you don't even have to use the characters and sequence of events that took place. I like to call this place 'Dalek City', though.
Or you can use what Charlotte said, "Somewhere amazing. Oh, and make it a Wednesday." and make a story about that.
