M.C.

At Clover they booked accommodation for the night in a small but cute b & b and talked with the owner about paid work they could do and a place to rent. The next morning the girls headed off to the possible jobs. Levy went to the library and found work there, Lucy found work as a personal assistant to the professor in Clover. Both girls notified the employers that in 9 months they would need time off for childbirth. They worked out a roster between the employers that they could still work in that time to support themselves.

Lucy's professor asked " Where are you living Lucy"

"I have yet to find a place, Sir."

"I don't normally offer this to my employees; however, you appear responsible and I couldn't bear the idea of babies born on the street. As part of the estate here I have a small house and yard which I could lease to you and your friend for 100000 Jules a month. But at that price you are responsible for maintaining it. Normally 4-bedroom houses start at 400000 Jules per month "

"May I see it please sir?"

"Right this way Lucy"

Lucy inspects the cottage and sees that although it is old and dirty it had really good bones. "Can we paint it and furnish it to our tastes?"

"Yes, you can, but send the bills to me, I will pay them you pay me back the cost as you work. That way I can be sure that the work is done properly. "

"Ok Sir, let's do up an agreement. " That night Lucy and Levy get together "I have a place for us to rent but we have to pay for repairs to the place first."

"What have you done? Can we afford this."

"Probably not but the owner said that he would foot the bill till we pay him back "

"I suppose that means that we get to design the property to our tastes. Tell me about the house you let us "asked Levy.

"Well it's a cute little cottage with dormers, the dormers let light in upstairs and a front porch. Downstairs is kitchen, laundry, bathroom and living room and 4 small bedrooms upstairs with half bath. It needs cleaning, painting and floor polished and new furniture. There is some furniture there that we can save on but most is unusable." Described Lucy.

"Ok let's ask the B & B owner if they know of anyone who can paint and polish. We can clean and remove stuff tomorrow " suggested Levy

"Deal!"

So, the girls went and asked the owner and found suitable tradesmen for the task set for them. They ended up staying at the B & B for 2 weeks while working their new jobs and preparing the cottage to be liveable. They saved as much of the old furniture they could as they realized the debt; they were in every little saving was important. Even so things like a new fridge, washing machine and baby cots that could convert to beds later were not negotiable purchases. Levy even got creative and made new bookcases out of the unusable furniture to save money. At the end of the 2 weeks both Lucy and Levy felt that they had a home to be proud of and could grow into as a family.
