About a week has rolled around since Everett and I had hung out and we're currently on facetime trying to finish up our project when I hear my front door open.
"Uh, I think someone is here?" I tell him while picking up my phone from the kitchen table and walking into the large foyer.
"Baby girl!" my dad exclaimed.
"DAD!" I scream while running to hug him.
"Carson. Don't yell in the house, it echos far too much," my mom scolds me.
"Sorry mother,'' I apologize, "I have to go, I'll call you back," I quickly say and hang up my phone.
"Who will you be calling back," my mom says while taking her hands out of her gloves.
"My project partner," I say quickly.
"Oh, why don't you just have Zachary come over?" she raises her right brow.
"I have a different partner this time. And his name is Zach," I say while watching my parents' assistants carry in their luggage.
"Archy, the room on the left side of the staircase is ours. Take those up there and unpack for us. Also call Mary and let her know the house needs cleaning," My mother says in disgust.
"Yes ma'am," Archy nods as he makes his way up our large staircase.
"I tried keeping it clean. I didn't want Mary to work while you guys were gone," I explained to my mom.
"That isn't your decision Carson, that is mine. This place is filthy!" She rolls her eyes while walking away.
"It's alright kiddo, I would have done the same thing," My dad walks past me while ruffling my hair. I follow my parents towards their work study and my mom continues.
"I don't understand why somebody that I pay will listen to a 17 year old anyway. Clearly she has no brains," She pushes a piece of her hair out of her face.
"Don't say that," I frown.
"Well, talking about brains, how is our little girl," My dad smiles as he sits in his chair.
"I've been very good, I'm still on track for early graduation," I perk up.
"What about those college responses? I suppose you have at least 4 acceptances from schools already," My mother raises an eyebrow while shifting through her paperwork.
"Well about that," I say quietly. I walk over to one of the large bookcases.
"Well what Carson?" My mom sternly asks.
"I haven't exactly applied for any college," I almost whisper.
"Carson, you need to speak up," My dad chimes in.
"I haven't applied to any," I run my fingers through my hair.
"YOU WHAT!" My mother's voice booms through the work study. My breath catches in my throat and I feel my face heat up.
"I-I haven't-" I choke out before she yells more.
"I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU! YOU- CAN'T BE THAT STUPID CAN YOU? YOU NEED TO GET INTO A GOOD SCHOOL AND THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN IS BY APPLYING FOR EARLY ADMISSION!" My mom was fuming now. Her hands were clenched tightly on the paperwork she had in her hands and she was quivering.
"I'm sorry," I say just above a whisper.
"You small minded child. Get out of here," She grits through her teeth and waves me off. I do as told, feeling hot tears welt in my eyes. I turn and close the glass door behind me. As I walk towards the kitchen I hear my parents begin to fight. My parents tend to fight often when they are home, I constantly feel it is my fault.
I hear the door open and my mother's voice rings through the house, "I WANT A DIVORCE!"
"I'VE BEEN WANTING ONE SINCE I MARRIED YOU LAURA!" I heard my dad yell.
It's all my fault. I sit on the stool of the kitchen table and open my computer. I log into the websites to start my early admission letters. I need to keep my family together, and if my going to an Ivy League will help then I'm doing so.

For the rest of the day I decided to just hang out in my room. I wanted to just avoid my mother at all costs. My dad did come up and try to talk to me, but with his confession to my mother about their possible divorce really messed with my head. If he really wants to leave why didn't he before. I couldn't shake the thoughts of my parents splitting up from my head so i had decided to take a shower.
Things haven't been this bad before. Has it always been like this, but I haven't noticed? Why would two unhappy people stay together? I will never understand this. I don't think I can ever forgive them.
I finished my shower so I wrapped a towel around my body and wrapped a towel around my hair. I walk into my room and I hear my phone ringing. I walk over and answer the facetime call.
It's Everett.
"I thought you were going to call- are you okay?" He questioned.
"Yeah, just some stuff." I shrug and sit on my bed.
"Do you want to go on a drive?" He asks. I think for a short minute before answering.
"Please. But I need to get dressed first." I say as I stand up.
"Okay, I'll be over in 15 minutes," he says and hangs up.
I put on a pair of grey joggers and an oversized shirt with vans. I threw my wet hair into a ponytail and walked down stairs.
"I'm going out," I yell.
"Where are you going at this hour?" My mom walks out in her leopard print pajama set with her arms crossed.
"Why does it matter where your "small minded" child goes," I put air quotes, "Like I said, I'm going out," I say as I shut the door and walk towards our front gate.
By the time I get to the gate Everett is waiting for me.
"Hey," I smile while jumping into his Audi, "So where are we going?" I ask.
"I might have an idea," he smirks and drives off.
