The incident didn't seem funny to me, especially since I had lost my favorite hoodie to the coffee stains it sustained, but other 2 couldn't stop laughing and trying to set me up with that guy. I only glared at them, my face turning redder, making them laugh even more.
"Please! I can't...take...any..more..",Vinnie was holding her stomach and looked as if she would fall down any minute. Ann was struggling to get her shaking hands to stop, so that her key would go in the hole.
"You guys are the ones who kept chattering, not me" I pointed out, storming into the house, only to trip over her cat Sugarplum, which was napping right at the entrance. Of course, this only increased Vinnie's laughter, who literally rolled on the floor, clutching her stomach and tears coming out of her eyes, while Ann went over to pat her cat, who was now awake, thanks to my leg. I went over and sat on the sofa, afraid I'll trip over something else, arms crossed. Vinnie managed to drag herself to the staircase and sat on it, wiping the tears off her face. "Everything alright?" "Everything is fine", Ann answered her brother and set the cat down.
"Hey Adam" I waved, sneaking a peek at Vinnie, whose turn it was to now go red. "Vinnie, say hi to Adam" I grinned at her, who slowly got up from her seat and mumbled "Hi Adam".
"Looking good Vinnie"he smiled at her. Ann winked at me. I couldn't help grinning. "Hey Cara, could you help me in the kitchen?" I answered before Vinnie could say anything. "Sure. You both keep talking. Ann and I will catch up later", I ran to the kitchen with Ann, whose cheeks looked as if they would burst.
MAN! Revenge is really sweet!
I sat down on one of the chairs by the dining table while she opened the fridge and handed me a Diet Coke before opening one for herself. "Cheers! To sweet revenge". I clinked my can with hers. "Looks like you'll be getting a sister-in-law soon", I spoke.
She shrugged. "It's better than anybody else he has dated. At least I won't have to pretend I like her. What about your love life?" She raised an eyebrow as she took a sip.
I shook my head. "Nothing happening there. Sorry to disappoint you guys"
"Just because he destroyed your favourite hoodie?"
"That, and besides, you know I'm not interested in such stuff."
"Oh come on Cara! Give it a go. Dating doesn't kill a person you know"
"But heartbreaks do"I pointed out, while she rolled her eyes. "Speaking of heartbreaks, how are you holding up?" We had promised never to talk about her ex, who cheated on her. It was last year and she really needed a long time to get back to normal. "You interested?"I asked slowly, taking a sip
"What if I told you...I'm having a date this week?" Coke splattered out from my mouth before I could close it. I coughed, while she grabbed a tissue to clear the table.
"What did you just say?" She gave a sly smile. "Michael asked me out after practice."
"Michael O'Connor? I thought he was with Julia."
"She dumped him for Sam Walter."
"Ouch!" She just shrugged. Vinnie came barging in. "Do you have any idea what I had to go through in there?", she pointed to the living room.
"Your welcome", Ann replied with a smile. "Why did you leave?" I asked.
"His phone rang". She muttered under her breath "saved by the bell" and took out a can for herself while I and Ann shared a smile.
"What were you two talking about?" I couldn't stop grinning.
"Just stuff. What were you two talking about?" She asked, taking a sip.
I nodded at Ann, who took a deep breath before replying "Michael asked me out".
She choked and started coughing, me grabbing the can before it spilled and Ann helping her up.
"What about Julia?"she managed between her coughs. "Dumped him for Sam."
"Oh" She looked over at Ann. "You ready for this?"
"Well, I thought I'll give it a go."
Vinnie spoke "He's a nice guy, though he ain't 'you know who' ", and winked at me.
"You are not planning to stop shipping me and Albert, are you?", I was kinda getting annoyed. "He doesn't even come to our school!"
"You gotta admit he looks good". I just shrugged, trying to forget the muscles on his arm that held the cup, his blue eyes teasing me and the way his jawline shaped his face...
"There she goes day dreaming" Vinnie laughed in which Ann joined in. I pretended not to hear.
We continued chatting until the sunset, deciding to heed back. I had used my cycle, which was parked against Vinnie's car. As we stepped out, Adam called out "Ann! Can I talk to you for a minute?" "Be right back", she muttered before heading in.
"Don't you wanna say goodbye to Adam?", I teased, taking my key out of the pocket and kneeling to open up the cycle lock. From the corner of my eye, I saw her face turn red. Laughing, I removed the lock and stood up straight, just as Ann came out. She looked at me, then at the cycle.
"You guys leaving?" Adam came to the door and leaned against the frame. I'll admit he looks good, with his blonde hair tousled up, a grey T-shirt and sweats. He was one of the guys who didn't have to try, he was born with the necessities.
"Got to be home by 7", I answered for both of us, Vinnie still tongue tied.
"I'll help you with those", Ann pulled my cycle and me along with it. I was about to say something and so was Vinnie, but Ann put a finger to her lips, then pointed. I turned around to see Adam say something and Vinnie nod. "What?", I asked, turning to face her. She just smiled.
Vinnie came running. "Best friends give warnings", she whispered loudly.
"Best friends don't spoil surprises", Ann retorted.
"Can someone explain what's going on?" Vinnie smiled and mumbled "He asked me out."
"What?!!"I turned to Ann. "Is that why he called you?"
"He wanted to know if it was OK with me". She shrugged. "I told him if he ever hurt her, he'll be dead before he knew it ". She looked at Vinnie. "So you'll tell me if he ever hurts you, k?"
Vinnie put her hands out, and we were hugging and congratulating her.
"Looks like you're the only one left", Vinnie said, turning to walk to her car. "Don't worry, you'll find someone soon". I rolled my eyes, waved goodbye and cycled back home.
I never knew Cupid had already let lose his arrows, and let them do their magic for me.
