"I called Ye-jun already. He's expecting both of you at the main subway station in an hour to pick you up. You should head out now and scope the place out, just in case."
Ash and Gabriel readied themselves to go out. Guns on the waist bands and with all their necessary equipment. Gabriel approached me on his way to the door. "You okay?"
It caught me off guard for a moment. I was still very on edge from the pills and I'm sure that they hid them from me. I went looking for them after the pain dwindled down, my cravings being over the roof. I didn't find them anywhere. Nicolas must have told Gabriel what happened and Gabriel must have taken the pills from me. He did that every time I was on the verge of relapsing. One time, he and Dad even locked me up for a month so that I could get it out of my system. I went to a rehab center shortly after. I used to go through ten to fifteen pills a day, and now I can barely keep my composure with one.
"Yeah," I reassured him. "I'm fine. Be careful, okay?"
He pulled me in for a hug, kissing the top of my head before leaving.
I walked to the couch and sat down, "we should call Mateo."
Nicolas nodded, taking out his phone. He dialed the number which instantly answered.
"Hello?"
"Mateo?" Nicolas and I asked at the same time.
"Hey, guys. Are you all okay? We were worried like crazy over here."
"We're fine. How is everyone over there?"
There was a silence that lasted a little too long for my comfort. "Mateo? What's wrong?"
"I have news," he paused and took a breath. "I just don't know if they're good or bad."
I closed my eyes. I couldn't receive any news right now. "What is it?"
"The doctor came back yesterday with test results. So, to start, Aurora made some progress."
My heart sped up. This was great news! "What progress?"
"Lorenzo went to visit her and she responded to commands to grip and release hands. She opened her eyes for a moment this morning. The doctors said she is coming out of the coma. She's been doing a lot better."
Oh god. "What were the test results, then?"
Again with the silence. "Mateo can you fucking speak!" I didn't like this feeling of anxiety.
"Tasia... she's pregnant."
I think I did nothing but blink for a minute straight. "Tas?"
"Pregnant? H-How? What?"
"Three months. Lorenzo didn't know. He found out with the rest of us yesterday. The doctor said that the baby isn't too majorly affected by the coma because Aurora still had a lot of brain function. Still, they are working faster than ever now to wake her up. They're also setting up equipment here to attend to the baby and she's scheduled for an ultrasound in a couple hours. A team of Doc's trusted assistants will make sure she stays healthy and Lorenzo already hired a gynecologist and a pediatrician. " He waited for a moment and then added, "she's doing good Tasia. Don't worry."
I looked up to the ceiling. My mother was pregnant? I was going to have a sibling? A blood sibling? "Is my father okay?" I half whispered.
"Yes," Mateo chuckled. "He doesn't want to leave Aurora's room. It wasn't until the doctors told him he's only disturbing them, that he actually left. We've been needing to force him to properly care for himself, but he's doing his best. He started crying when he found out she was pregnant. He said he's been wanting another child for a long time now."
