Chapter Twelve

I surprisingly am able to stay awake after cake, though it may just be a sugar rush. It's about 10am currently and we have some things to do before the new person gets here. When I was in the bathroom apparently the elevator opened and 2 men brought in a bed. I don't question why they wouldn't try and get out then because there must be a reason. So using the bed and the sheets dropped off we make the new person's bed and set up a toothbrush and that stuff in the washroom.

"Wanna go train?" Ryan asks me. "We still have a couple hours until they get here, it's usually around dinner." I nod and grab his hand as he leads me to train. I'm nervous for this new person to come, but no harm in passing time. Especially when there is a possibility of me passing out any second. I don't get all nighters. So I train a bit. I've progressed on creating lightning somewhere not from me. So I'm working on that today. I close my eyes and do the normal, except instead of transferring it to my hand, I picture exactly where I want it to go and let go. I open my eyes to see the spot directly next to Ryan have a lame tiny spark that couldn't hurt a fly.

"Nice try," Shawn says laughing from the doorway, "though I don't think that'll scare anyone away." I flip him a smirk,

"No but this will," I state, lightning sparking in his direction, just barely missing him. It takes not even a second thought for all of that and I need to get it to that point with creating lightning somewhere else. So I try again. And again. And again. For almost 2 hours I work on doing it and I finally stop when I do one strong one. Might as well end on a good note.

While Ryan stays to do some physical exercise with Shawn and Ev, I head back to hang out with Kacey. It's an hour to dinner and they said the new person could come any time now. Depending on where she's coming from that is.

"I really hope it's another girl," I say to Kacey as I swing my feet at the end of the bed, "We need more girls around here." Kacey nods,

"Yeah but you're going to have a turn as the big sister now so you'll have to be happy with whoever it is," she says laughing. I guess we are a group of siblings in a way. Kacey the oldest and Shawn the oldest brother. I'm the youngest but not for much longer at least.

"What do you think her power will be?" I ask Kacey. Obviously she couldn't know what the power will be, but a guessing game could be fun.

"Maybe something with water, that could be cool," she says, "or maybe another mind type of thing."

"No thank you!" I exclaim, "I have enough trouble with Ryan controlling my emotions everyday for practice." Kacey laughs and we keep listing possibilities for this new person's powers. Then I realize I have to help explain what the powers are to her. I guess it's hard to deal with, I didn't believe them at first. I told them they were crazy. What if she doesn't believe it either?

An hour later Kacey and I recieve the 6 dinners from the shoot. An extra one for the extra one of us. We put the extra one aside for the person when she gets here and we eat our hotdogs.

"Shotty explaining!" Shawn calls part way through the meal.

"No way!" Kacey responds, "I'll start the explanation and you can add. No offense Shawn you look kinda intimidating to new people."

"I'll toast to that!" I exclaim laughing. Let's just say big muscles and a kind of blank looking expression seems scary to people who don't know him. After dinner we clean up when I hear the moving sound of the elevator. I look immediately to Kacey who motions for all of us to stay back. "How come you never try to get in the elevator when they drop the new person off?" I ask.

"They carry guns," Ryan states blankly as we all wait until the elevator doors open. To us it looks like a normal stone wall. Although we all know it opens up from the other end. I fiddle with my hands realizing how long this elevator ride is taking. I feel Ryan's hand enclose around mine, stilling it. It's comforting. When the doors open it feels like an eternity. The two men, completely different from the people who brought me a year ago today, throw the scrawny girl in and get back in the elevator. I look at Kacey as does everyone else, waiting for her permission to move closer.
