Today is the day we are pulling off something that will change the way everyone sees everything. We are telling America the truth on live television. If we actually accomplish it... It's really risky and so much could go wrong, but if we were able to make it in and out of the white house, we can do this. I hope. As we get into the car, snacking on dry cereal, my heart is already fluttering out of my chest. It is almost a 3 hour car ride to get there, but we have 4 hours until the show starts.
"Can we," I start as we start to drive down the street. Our suitcases clunk in the back as we go over a speed bump.
"No Rae," Kace says, "we all know the plan back and forth, going over it again will just make us nervous. All we can do now is let go of everything for the next 3 hours." I nod though truly my mind isn't going to drift from it for any minute of this dreadful car ride. I feel Ryan place his hand on top of mine, steadying it from it's fidgeting.
"Careful," he teases, "your nerves may burn out the engine." I give him a lighthearted smile and try to calm myself down with deep breaths. I fail. The nerves are surging through me and adrenaline is already beginning to pulse through my brain. It's going to be an eventful day, but right now I just need to calm down and get settled for the ride ahead.
As the car pulls closer and closer to the studio my nerves rise with it. We are in D.C. now and most people either know our faces or our names from that scandel. Kacey has the windows 'tinted' with her illusion and we stop the car in an underground parking lot with only 4 other cars. No one else is in here right now other than the guy you pay coming in. Kacey is going to have to work her magic if we are going to walk the 3 blocks from here to the recording studio.
"You ready Kace?" I ask her right as we are all about to open the car doors. Ryan, Shawn and Everett slide their baseball hats on, while Kace, Maia and I do the same with winter beanies. It's still cold enough that no one will find us wearing these weird. Kacey nods and closes her eyes. When I open them we all have slightly changed features that on first glance would make us nothing like ourselves. Maia's normally perfect tiny nose is much longer and her eyes are turned brown. The tiny bit of freckles that normally cover my nose have disappeared and my eyes are now a bright blue/grey colour. Tiny details like this are changed on each of us. I almost laugh when I see Everett with braces.
"Really Kace!" he exclaims, "you have to give me braces!" she shrugs and we keep walking, slightly making fun of each other's appearances. As we go above ground, the streets are filled with people all walking in such a hurry for a Saturday morning. We have about 30 minutes until the show starts filming which is plenty of time as long as we don't get sidetracked. Thankfully everyone is too consumed in their shopping or morning runs to give a bunch of teens/20 somethings a second thought. We make it to the studio 17 minutes before they start and now is where the challenges will start. We all agreed we won't try to get in with illusions because one fault and they'll see through it. So we are sneaking in, which is surprisingly easy for a show with this many viewers. We are going to go through the employee entrance, the only problem being we need the key card to open it. That part we are leaving to Ev. As we near the building we are going to have to be really sneaky because there are less people and people will start expecting us to head to the live audience entrance. Kacey isn't quite good at the whole invisible thing, though we've been trying a lot for the past few days. There is always a kink and you see like part of the body and well... that's more suspicious. So we are relying on being good at sneaking in. We walk to the right side of the building where the entrance is and wait for Everett to swipe a card from an unsuspecting person. We are there for a full 6 minutes before someone walks by and this is our only chance if we want to be inside in time for the show to start. We all watch Everett focus on the card and get it before the girl gets to the door and grabs it. Soon enough the card flies in our direction, landing on my lap. I pick it up and study the card. I look most like this girl out of any of us. Brown hair, brown eyes, not tan but not pale. We watch as the girl checks for her card and when she can't find it, calls her friend to let her in. Once she and her friend are far enough away, we get ready to make our own way inside. We have less than 10 minutes to get inside and ready, but I think we can do it.
