5: The Test

Zuki

I'm woken up by the loud sound of my alarm ringing. On any other day I would be annoyed or possibly pissed off but not today. Today is the day where I leave my old life behind. The start of something new is happening. One would be excited or should I say 'should be excited', I can't help but feel melancholy air surround me. Shivering because of it, I feel frozen.

After throwing on some casual clothing, I grab my backpack and duffel bag, and head out the door of my bedroom. Walking into the kitchen, I see my mother sitting at the table with a sorrowful look in her eyes. Soon pulling a comforting smile onto her face as she finally notices my presence in the room.

"Today is the day Mom, I promise that I'll do my best." I state in a soft voice. She softly replies with a nod. "I know you will." She pulls me into a hug. Taking it all in, I relax in the comfort of my mother's touch. Pulling away after some time she speaks in a soft but caring voice. "You should get going, You shouldn't be late"

I nod my head sorrowfully, Slowly walking towards the door, I feel my palms begin to sweat, and my heart start to race. I...I Don't want to leave. I must however, this is the only way. Everything that she has done for me, I will pay her back for it. I'll make enough money to move her out of here, and then after 2 years of serving my time I'll come back home. I'll coast through. I don't care if I have to end up doing the bear minimum 

"Take care Mom, I love you"

Arriving at Delfow Central Square ten minutes before the buses set off, I find a tent to register at. There are at five tents lined in the center. The square is lively, filled with people who look to be around my age, along with many others who I would assume to be their families. People are heading into tents one after another after saying goodbye to their loved ones.

I get in line to head into a tent. It didn't take long for me to head into one. Entering pass the curtain the first and only thing you see is a desk with a soldier sitting behind it with a mess of boxes with papers in them. 

"Fill this out" The lady said in a monotone voice. She looks out of it, her hair is a mess and you can clearly see the bags under her eyes.

After studying her for a second, I pick up the pen on the desk and start to fill out the paper. It doesn't take fill it out. All it ask is for basic stuff like name, age, height, whatever. Right when I out the pen down a man with a very recognizable and annoying voice burst in from the other side of the tent.

"The buses are going to leave soon, It's time to close the tent up Miss Omani." Vixbin says. "Oh Zuki, you made it! Great great good good. Now let's see your form her- " He pauses. His face morphs into that of an idiot trying to hold in their laughter. "Your real name Is 'Zukel'?!" He burst into a fit of laughter, holding his stomach acting overly dramatic. "How is that funny VIXBIN. Your name is just as stupid.

"Hey! It is not! It's a very cool name. Anyway follow me Zuki. You are riding with me." I follow Vixbin to an all black vehicle. An S.U.V of sorts but militarized. "Careful not to breathe to close to me, You might dirty up the suit. Fresh aren't I?" I roll my eyes at his comment. "You might wear one of these...Of course if you pass the test and all that other stuff. I have high hopes for you."

I will pass, don't worry about me you bumbling idiot. Climbing into the back of the car. I notice the nice interior. comfortable velvet seats and flooring. "Nice right, Only important people can ride in one of these. Consider yourself lucky." 

The car sets off before the buses. Confusion strikes at me and Vixbin is quick to clear it. "Zuki, You get a head start. I simply just want to further see what you are capable of." I'm even more confused now. You idiot, you didn't explain shit!

"Whatever, I'm completely capable of making it into the army" I state as I look out the window.

*SLAM*

I am woken up by the sound of a door being slam. but I'm not in the car... I feel the grass on my hands as I sit up. I'm on the side of the road, Am I in the woods?! "Your test has began Zuki! Make it to the academy. Just follow the river, Don't die and you pass. It shouldn't take long, Just a day or two!" Vixbin yells from inside the car. He then pokes his head out the window. "Oh Yeah! Have this!" He throws out an object from the window. "Also don't walk on the side of the road. I'll know if you did and I will fail you and send you back home. Don't even risk it! You brat!"

The car then revs off and I quickly get up to run after it but of course, I am too slow. "Hey! Wait!" I yell but to no avail. The sound of howling pulls me back into my surroundings. I just realized, I'm all alone and it's night. I'm trapped in the woods. I swiftly turn back and pick up my bags. I also grab the thing that Vixbin threw at me. Unwrapping the object I'm met with a shiny object. It's a dagger.

I grab the dagger and put it in the pouch the came along with it. I place the pouch on my thigh and I tightly wrap it around my pants. I zip up my jacket as i start to feel cold. that stupid, good for nothing, Piece of shit, abandoned me in the woods. Okay, It's okay. I'll find a way. What did he say? F-Follow the river? What Frickin' river?

Calm down, I can do this. I close my eyes as I take in my surrounding by hearing it. I hear the chirp of crickets, The wind howling through forest and the sound of...water, flowing by. I shoot my eyes open and I run towards the sound in the forest. I am consumed by the darkness of the the woods, It's a little scary but I'll get through it. 

The crunch of leaves and branches fills the quiet forest as I jog towards the sound of running water. 

When I see that bastard I swear that I'm going to kill him.
