~~Rachel Elizabeth Dare~~
Rachel sighed as she opened the attic's trap door and the stairs unfolded.
When will it end, I'm getting tired of this.
The stairs creaked and dust billowed as Rachel clambered up the steps. Her eyes scanned the many jars that held the various parts of monster anatomy. Her gaze flitted past the broken shields, swords, and other souvenirs of demigod valor that had been through so much, only to end up in the dusty attic of the Big House.
Finally, Rachel's eyes settled on the wrinkled hippy hag resting in a tight corner at the end of the room.
"Hey girlfriend," she addressed the former oracle. "Do you wanna-maybe-kinda, oh I don't know, SHOW SOME POSITIVE RESULTS TODAY."
Rachel had reached her breaking point of stress. For three months, the Oracle of Delphi had been out of commission, and Apollo had made it Rachel's job to try and restore her gift of prophecy. The first week had been boring, but at least Rachel had had a trickle of hope. Now all she had was a full glass of doubt.
You've been active for eons and you chose now to just quit? Some magical prophetess you are.
Rachel laughed bitterly at herself and prepared to sink into the memory trance. When she relaxed her mind, she could remember some of the visions she'd had before Delphi had gone silent and try to interpret them. Soon, darkness enveloped Rachel and she sighed contentedly. But before she could manipulate her mind, she was overtaken by a completely new vision.
I'm ssso glad we could chat dear. I have been wanting to meet you sssince Gaea resssurected me. Rachel could see a thick, scaly tail undulating in the pitch black, almost as if she were in a cave and the only light was shining on that one place. The voice speaking was hoarse and snake-like, with a cheesey drawn-out ssss in font of its words. The voice made Rachel quake with fear, though she didn't know why. She tried to speak: "who are you", but her mouth woudn't move. I am the mighty Python, my dear. Turns out the snake could read her mind. Typical. Python laughed, or at least made some ungodly sound that resembled a laugh. Sssilly girl. You call yourssself an oracle. I WAS THE FIRSSST, I WAS THE GREATESSST! But that doesssn't matter now. Apollo dessstroyed me, ssso I ssshall dessstroy his prophecy. Ssstarting with you, puny mortal. Let your pitiful friendsss try to ssstop me. I dare them. Rachels sight completely cleared and she gasped when she saw Python laughing at his oke. He was at least fifteen feet long, and a foot thick. Python had four fangs that were as long as daggers, and red pits for eyes. His reptilian skin was a pattern of black and green diamonds, and behind his head he had a red crown, like a basilisk's. Python turned towards Rachel with his red eyes glittering, and lunged.
An hour later, Annabeth called from below the attic,
"Rach, you okay, you've been up there a while."Annabeth suddenly saw a small trickle of green smoke flowing from the attic. "Rachel?"
Annabeth slowly walked up the stairs and entered the attic. The green fog bollowed around the room. She waved her hand around to clear her vision and saw the regular trophies and prizes on their shelves. Besides the green mist, everything looked normal, except Rachel was nowhere to be seen.
