"Astrid, wake up." A small voice woke her.
"Huh?' Astrid asked, opening her eyes.
"I can hear voices in the hall, they're laughing about something." Emily said.
"Probably about another experiment." Ethan mumbled, leaning against a corner of his cage.
"Or another test for some other mutant." Rowan croaked
"Or are they planning something for us?" Alice joined the conversation.
"I think I heard the Whitecoats say our names, or something like that." Emily picked at a loose thread on her shirt.
"They're probably laughing about the plans for us." Alex sighed.
"I hate them." Emily snarled quietly.
"I know, I do too, I think we can all agree." Astrid crawled to the very edge of of her cage to sit closer to Emily.
"Why do they have to tourture us? Why kids in general? Do they ever feel compassion?" Alice vented her anger.
"Alice, I don think they even have emotion. They never give a crap about our suffering." Ethan folded his arms.
"We need a plan." Astrid changed the subject as memories flooded her consciousness.
"Like what?" Ethan questioned, rolling his eyes.
"A plan to escape." Astrid grinned. She knew there may be a flaw in the plan that the Whitecoats would catch, but there's no hurt in letting a little imagination run free.
"That sounds amazing. Getting caught, getting tourtured even more, sound like a blast." Ethan replied.
"We won't get caught," Astrid let loose a white lie. "We just have to think outside the box, yah know, outsmart the Whitecoats."
"Wait, literally outside the box, or just think harder, but still be inside the box?" Ethan struck her with the infamous sarcasm again.
"Well, if it was literal, it would be nice, but we can't quite do that yet. Now, we just need to be in the non-literal fashion. What they don't think about is what we need to think about. We need to think about many ways to escape so we can have Plan B, C, D, and so on, and the Whitecoats won't know what hit them." Astrid was brewing with ideas.
They heard footsteps approaching the room. The door swung open and three silhouettes greeted them.
"Jasper, are you sure we can't run tests on them now?"
"Sid, I told you, no. We can once I get back, but right now, just leave them alone." A dark voice explained.
"C'mon Jasper! Who gives them breaks?" Complained the man on his left.
"If we want them to get tested over and over, they will run out of energy to complete the series."
"Hmmph, whatever. C'mon Phil, let's go. We still have a lot on our plate."
"Fine."
"Sid, when I get back, they better be unharmed and ready to be released."
"We are already prepared to get out of these dog crates!" Astrid snarled.
"They can talk?"
"No duh!" One shoved Sid in anger.
"We're not as stupid as you are. We're smarter." Alice muttered.
"And nicer." Rowan added.
"And we're better cooks." Ethan hopped onto the insult train.
"I was gonna say that we are better mutants, but they can't fly. I got nothing." Emily broke the tracks of the train.
"Why can we not do one test?" Sid questioned.
"Because I said so." Jasper snapped.
"And you better obey that order; no one touches them until I am back."
"Yes sir." They sighed and walked away.
Alice curled up into a tight ball, trembling in fear.
"Why won't you let us out for once! We been in her for days, maybe even a week!" Astrid punched the floor in rage.
"Hmm, I think you know why." Jasper leaned against the doorway.
"I'd rather beat the crap out of them then get thrown back in here just to feel better." Alice took a deep breath.
"That's why, we know you guys want to get out of here. So now you would do anything to get what you want."
"If we've wanted to do something, we would've already done so." Alex growled.
"Like what?! Probably, the best way to to get out is listening to us and show us you won't dart off."
"Oh please, we have to listen to you twenty four-seven, so don't say we don't listen to you. It's very annoying too." Astrid's voice dripped in sass.
Jasper sighed, "Fine, yes, you do, but not in the way we want you to."
"Hey, are you ready to get the other four?" Another one of the Whitecoats called.
"Yes. I'm just waiting for you to finish."
"Seriously, I don't think they care about any living thing." Alice murmured.
Another Whitecoat approached Jasper. "At least I didn't leave you guys to the others." He sneered.
"We're always with them when your here!" Alex yelled.
"Yes, I know, but that is only when I'm here, and fortunately, I will not be here, so they cannot hurt you."
"Jasper, let's go get some friends for them already. Then they can tell the new kids how nice we are." A minion commented.
"Fine, let's go Jacob. Behave." The intimidating leader left the door way.
"Alright, okay, yeah. We will just sit here and wait for more torturing tests, it's so fun." Astrid shouted sarcastically.
"There's a good girl." Jasper chuckled as he left the hallway.
"We all despise you!"
"Let's go get the family." Jasper whispered.
"Isn't today the birthday of the daughter?" A minion questioned.
"Yes, and what's a better gift then coming to the luxury laboratory?" Jasper laughed maliciously.
"I have no idea." Jacob laughed as they stepped out onto the pavement.
"It's about time to see how they respond to us." Jasper climbed into a black truck, followed by the other Whitecoats.
