Enjoy!
There's a child begging her mother to buy her a pretty doll she saw in the shop window.
A man talking business to another as they sit in a café permeated with the rich scent of baked goods and ground coffee.
Three fashionable ladies linked arm in arm while they strut down the pathway like it's a Parisian catwalk.
A girl sitting with her arms looped around her boyfriend's neck.
And then there's her, walking slowly down a thin strip of pavement with a note in her clenched hand. A boy crafted from her past follows her, hand resting comfortably on her her shoulder.
~
She orders a frothy coffee, tossing a few coins onto the table and listening to them clink prettily. The boy flicks a coin of his own up and catches it on the back of his hand.
He grins handsomely.
The coffee comes and for a moment in her mind's eye, he leans forward, snatches the paper cup and sprints out. The doorbell chimes and he grins from the outside, waving her drink at her.
"Miss?" the shop assistant prompts.
She takes the cup into her hands gingerly, bows slightly and walks away. The boy is still waiting for her.
He links his arm with hers and leads her back down the street. On the way, he lifts her cup out of her hand and takes a sip. She pats his hand endearingly.
Some coffee spills onto the pavement. "Watch where you're going, woman," a passerby snaps as she almost bumps into him. The half-smile disappears and she huddles away.
He sighs behind her, and loops a comforting hand around her waist. She puts her own hand on his, and feels nothing but the fluffy texture of her coat.
Dreading, he looks sideways at him, but he's fading quick, until there's nothing, too.
A lonely smile graces her lips. "Why did you leave, Chen? Where did you go?" she murmurs into her coffee.
I'm here.
Her eyes dart further up the path, and there he is, standing and waving a few metres away.
She shakes her head. No. Stop taunting me. You're not there, you can't be- you're fake, imaginary-
Her eyes narrow as she attempts to keep the angry tears at bay.
She walks past the child who was begging her mother. The little girl beams from ear to ear now, holding her new doll tightly to her chest.
The men who were talking business shake hands with each other and they rise, satisfied grins on their faces.
The three fashionable ladies linked arm in arm find their fancy in some department shops. They laugh genuinely, and that laughter rings in her eyes mockingly. Where's my happiness?
The girl sitting with her boyfriend gets a sweet peck and they go for ice cream.
And then there's her, walking slowly down the thin strip of pavement with a note in her clenched hand. She is accompanied only by empty wishes and daydreams of him.
Why can't I ever get what I want? she thinks.
He's still standing in front of her. And she swipes a frustrated hand through him. He fades, fades, and fades.
She slides to the harshly cold ground, and the angry tears can no longer be held at bay.
Why? Why does it have to me?
The End. I wonder how this turned out to you, my fantastic readers~ Vote! Comment! And thank you guys very, very much! Until next time <3 ~Kieva
