"I love you," she says, and Xiumin's heart breaks a little as he stares back into her soft doe-brown eyes. He forces the small smile on his lips not to slip; he's on camera, and he wants to save himself the heartbreak all over again if he has to re-enact this scene. He can't bear doing that; he already feels crushed. She'll never return his clandestine feelings... It's just not possible.
___ watches as the happy sparkle in his eyes disappears and she knows that something is wrong. She can't ask though; they're on set.
"I love you too, Mira," he says, and she can't help but think that there's a tinge of sadness in his tone. The director hasn't noticed anyways; he thinks that it's a marvellous input on the actor's part to project so much emotion into his voice.
If only he was acting.
"Cut! Wonderful, wonderful, just charming," the director's loud voice booms. Xiumin's tense shoulders loosen in relief and he lets go of ___'s hand. He doesn't have to go through that again.
He takes a deep swig of water and startles a little when ___ approaches him and dabs at his sweaty forehead with a cool cloth.
"It's so hot on set, isn't it," she says casually, and her sweet voice is like music to his ears.
He makes a noise in agreement and takes another drink, tipping back his head and enjoying the coolness of the liquid. "It is," he says finally. "What do you think of the script?"
"Between the main roles? I think it's... realistic. And kinda cute. What do you think?" ___ tilts her head at Xiumin adorably and he just gazes at her for a moment, admiring her effortless beauty.
"What do you think of the bit where they confess to each other? You know, where they finally get together? It's such a sweet but slightly cliche ending, isn't it?"
Xiumin's heart twinges a bit. He doesn't really want to think of it. Sure, every time ___ says 'I love you', he feels warm inside but then he realises that it's not really reality. It's so disappointing.
"I think... it's okay."
___'s surprised that he's actually said a full sentence to her. He usually just makes some non-committal sound and nods.
"You're really good at acting you know," he says, a smirk appearing on his face.
He looks so perfect to her. But then she realises what he's saying. "You are too, Xiumin."
Oh how she wishes that his 'I love you' is real.
Xiumin swallows as ___'s expression turns pensive and then he suddenly thinks of the actual plot. The two main characters were both scared to confess but in the end it worked out perfectly. Perhaps he could try...?
"I-" they both begin at the same time. Xiumin watches ___ with a wide-eyed expression.
She smiles softly. "You can go first."
He clears his throat awkwardly. "Ahh... Ahm ____, I uh... love you," he says slowly.
___'s eyes widen considerably and she looks stunned. He looks down, crestfallen. Obviously, she did not return his feelings. "It's okay, ___. I know-"
"But Xiumin-ah," she whispers, drawing his attention as she comes closer so that he can almost smell the light scent of her perfume, "I love you too."
