"Hey Boss, what are you gonna do about the shortage of recruits?"
He took a long drag from his cigarette before waving him off. "Just go find me someone gullible enough to take our offer. We can easily replace them if necessary." He reached over and put his cigarette out in a silver-plated ashtray, watching as the smoke steadily dispersed into the surrounding air, almost as if it was trying to suffocate the two with what little fumes it had left.
The prior man drew his phone from his pocket and strode towards the door to exit the room, turning towards the boss before putting the phone to his ear. "Y'know, I never noticed how much you smoked until now." Whoever it was he telephoned picked up right away, and with no further conversation, he slipped through the door into the hallway.
The latter took a deep breath and closed his eyes, tilting his head back slightly and running a hand through his hair.
"It's just a bad habit of mine."
