Chapter 10

Maya smiled walking into the same park she has been going to for the last six years.
Exhaling as she knew everything happened with a purpose she just had to find that purpose.
She saw as Josh sat down next to her unsure of the reason why he is doing all of the things that he was.

"Why are you here, Josh?" Maya asked causing Josh to lightly smile.
"I was here one day following you because I was worried and I saw how you sang with Rob. He's always refused to take any help and prefers to do stuff his way. Hearing your voice was amazing and every time I hear it when I am at your show makes me realize yoy are not just some girl. You overcome so lot of your life and still here you are. Just some girl wishing it could all be lost with. Why are you doing all of this?" Josh asked causing Maya to look at him.

He chose his word finely, she thought.
Maybe too finely.
Of course they were sweet and she needed to hear them but she was so sure that it wasn't everything and wanted to hear more knowing she will regret it eventually.

"Because this is what I need to do for a living," Maya said smiling.
"Chose something else then. Maya, you are young and smart. You will get any job you desire if you go and look for it," Josh said.
"Josh, I am not qualified for anything and except that, I didn't even finish high school. I dropped out half way through my sophomore year. Nobody would give me a job even if I ask. But music is what I do and what I love so I will manage. Thank you for caring. It's more than most people have done in a long time," Maya said.
"What happened with your father?" Josh asked and Maya looked at him.

The way he asked that question was like nothing she has ever heard.
It was with so much sympathy but with so much respect.
Like he almost knew how tough she has had it but also like he had no idea.

"Um... My mother got pregnant at age 17 and months before her eighteenth birthday I was born prematurely. Very prematurely and they struggled financially for a long time," Maya said as Jskh looked at her knowing the word prematurely was well known with his family.
"Even with everything else, having a steady income from my father, it never worked out. When I was pretty much 18 months they got married and three and a half years later they got divorced because of my father cheating. After that my mom went behind in everything. My dad basically did everything. He covered any fees for taking care of me, he covered the apartment, the cars, insurance, medical insurance and all the bills. When he decided not to be involved anymore my mom struggled financially and had to get help from my great-grandmother to pay for everything. After she passed away when I was 10 my mom went to my aunt and when she couldn't help anymore she went to my grandmother who could help partly. I had to drop out of school and..." Maya said as she took a deep breathe.
"When I was about 17 my mom passed away. My grandmother said she would pay the house rent and then she suddenly passed away when I was about 20. It didn't help wondering what was next. I sold a lot of the furniture, not that there was a lot of but I sold what I could and that helped a bit. Shortly after my grandmother passed away my father contacted me telling me he is going to try and help which didn't work at all. His wife said that they already have three children and couldn't afford to help me. It was either me or her and of course he chose her. Leaving me with having to go on with life," Maya said as she looked at Josh.

He had no idea what to say little did he know that her life was so difficult.
He had no idea basically and now what he had heard was so much worse.

"I met Rob and we made an agreement that we will do music together and raise money. After about 2 months of park singing I went to look for a job but didn't find any success in it and gave up. A year later I gave it another shot. This time as a waitress and managed to land a job as a singer at a bakery," Maya said causing Josh to smile as it seemed the story had a happy ending.
"In the end it played off pretty well. I am where I am thanks to everything happening in my life. I'll be okay," Maya said.
"Why if your parents knew it was a disaster did they even try dating?" Josh asked.
"It was their age difference that was in the way. My mom was almost 18 when I was born and my father was almost 23. The age difference was a lot for many people to handle," Maya said.
"Five years is a lot. My patents are like 3 years and that is still like a bit too much for a lot of people. Five is pretty much a huge age gap," Josh said.
"It was," Maya said.
"So how come your boyfriend doesn't help you?" Josh asked knowing a beautiful girl like Maya would eventually have gotten involved with a guy.
"What makes you think any guy would want to get involved with a girl who didn't graduate high school or have a proper job until a month ago?" Maya asked and Josh smiled.
"You're a beautiful girl. Any guy would be lucky to be involved with you," Josh said.

Maya smiled as she bit her lip trying to find a way to see how on earth this one guy could give her such goosebumps.
She was surely in love from day one and he managed to make that love worth fighting for.

"Maybe. I don't know. Maybe it is just my way of making sure everything goes according to plan. Someone who is just playing with me won't do me any good right now. I gotta go. I'll see you," Maya said as she was off.

Okay I know this is a long chapter and a very long time since I actually did update.
I've been busy with tests and all that so I haven't been as active as before.
I wrote this a long time ago but just didn't have the time to publish it since I am busy with tests.
