Soulmate AU: A red string tied to your pinky connects you and your soulmate together. Only some people are able to see these strings.

✼ 𝕤𝕥𝕒𝕣𝕥 ✼

You stared again at your pinky.

Rubbing your eyes again, you couldn't deny the fact that a red string was now tied around your right pinky finger. Just what was going on?

Ever since you could remember, there was a red string around everyone's pinky. Although no one else seemed to be able to see it, the red string was so shockingly noticeable that as a child you couldn't help but tell others about it. Of course, no one really believed you, laughing at your fantasies and joked around with you.

The only people who believed you were your grandmother and childhood friend, Oikawa. Yet, could you really call him a friend anymore? Ever since you left to Shiratorizawa (a/n sorry I had to), your friendship seemed a little more strained and over the years, he simply stopped talking to you. You didn't really care much about it, you had your own problems.

Like now for example.

"(y/n) are you going to get your lazy butt out of bed yet or what?"

Your head turned slowly towards the door. Your grandmother was standing at your door, staring at you blankly.

"Obā-chan," you whispered. "...I have a red string."

Your grandmother stared at you as she registered what you had just said. You watched as her eyes slowly widened in realisation as she quickly rushed over to your side. She ripped the blankets from you, ushering you out of bed.

"Go! Just go now!" she shouted, pushing you towards the bathroom.

"E-eh?"

"Go find your special one, you silly child," she hurried around your room, taking out some clothes for you. "Why are you standing there? Hurry up and change!"

。・゚゚・ 𝕥𝕚𝕞𝕖 𝕤𝕜𝕚𝕡 ・゚゚・ 。

"I don't wanna gooo~" you pouted, holding onto the door frame tightly with both hands.

"Just get out of here," your grandmother argued, struggling to push you out the door. "Do it before it's gone!"

"I don't think it'll disappear," you mumbled to yourself, reluctantly releasing your grip from the door, resulting in you nearly falling face-first when your grandmother gave one final push.

"Bā-chan!"

"Oops."

You sighed, turning towards your grandmother. You kissed her cheek, still looking at her like a sad puppy.

"Can I just, not?"

"No! Don't come home until sunset or something!"

You gave her one final look and left, feeling her intense stare from your back as you continued following your string. It was strange to have it suddenly appear - never did you think it would show up. As you blindly followed it, you could feel a tug every so often, pulling your pinky harshly.

Grumbling about how rough your soulmate was, you failed to notice where you were heading. As the scenery around you began to change, you eventually came to a stop. Glancing up, your breath wavered a little.

Your old kindergarten. A place of good memories and bad memories, but which would you remember more?

Your first friend. Your first best friend.

Your family torn apart.

Ever since your parents divorced, you were forced to live with your grandmother. It wasn't the worst and you loved her dearly, yet sometimes you found yourself longing for a real family. But they simply left you and went on their separate lives. Without you. Their only child.

As you turned the corner, you quickly stopped.

Oikawa?

You hid behind a telephone pole, trying to catch another glimpse of the hazel boy. You gasped a little when you saw him holding hands with another girl. You watched him as he gave her his signature smile, placing his arm around her shoulder as he guided her into a store. What a flirt, you thought.

You emerged from behind the pole, walking towards the store about to go give him a piece of your mind. Even if he was on a date, you couldn't help but feel slightly jealous. Before you could enter the store, Oikawa walked out with the girl giggling madly beside him. Your eyes locked onto each other and you swore you could've said your name under his breath.

"Oika-"

"Let's go over this way," Oikawa ushered his girlfriend in the opposite direction, guiding the lovesick girl. "There's a really good..." his voice slowly fading out as you stood standing opposite the road.

He just avoided you. What hurt most was when you saw his red string. It was as if fate was playing you in this dangerous game. Of all possibilities, it could have chosen for your future, it just had to be the one that would pain your heart the most.

Tied so tightly onto his pinky...

Tied so tightly onto your pinky...

... was a red string connecting both your cruel fates together.
