"Ok Laurie, you're going to take a carriage and make sure Meg doesn't fall in love." Jo said the boy next to her.

"What about Abby?" Laurie asked looking over to the young girl who was readying her bags,

"I don't think we'll have to worry about her." Jo followed his stare, then winked cheekily. "Just as long as you don't take her away I think we'll be fine."

"Don't say such things Jo!" He exclaimed, only making her stifle a laugh more. "I'm serious! I told you she doesn't know what she wants."

"I think she does, she just doesn't quite know it yet." Jo grinned, tugging the boy over to the carriage where Meg and Abby were boarding.

Abby noticed Marmee stopping Meg to give her something, a necklace, Abigail wasn't a person for material things but was disappointed that her mother had seemed to forget her.

With glowing cheeks and perky smiles, the two disappeared into the carriage, where they were greeted by goodbyes from the outside.

The carriage started moving and Abby looked to her elder sister, who looked troubled.

"What is it Meg?" She asked.

"I'm afraid I can't tell you, but you'll get to know soon enough." Meg stumbled over her words.

"Why? If i'll find out later surely I can know now!" Abby exclaimed, taking her sisters hands. "What is it?"

Meg huffed. "You see this?" She asked, pointing to her neck where her new necklace resided. Abby nodded. "Mother gave this to me and she told me she had a gift for you too, she just couldn't give it to you yet." Meg paused, as if trying to find the right words. "Oh Abby, I saw her give a box the same as mine to Laurie!"

"She gave my gift to Laurie!" Abby huffed. "Of all people, she had to choose that lad."

"I don't think it was of choice Abby."

"What do you mean?"

"I think there was a reason, you see, Marmees' promise ring from father was missing from her hand." Meg grinned.

"Oh no it can't be!"

"I don't know!"

"But Marmee would never approve of that!"

"I said I don't know!"

...

"Oh darlings! You look so cute!" The loud voice of Annie Moffat boomed through the foyer.

"Hello Annie!" Meg exclaimed.

The blond haired bombshell responded by wrapping her arms around the two girls.
"You two look so cute and humble!" She said, much to the two young girls embarrassment.
