It was a crisp morning, and a sight no one thought to see was occurring.
The Laurence boy was making his way to Aunt March's manor, only this time, he wasn't there to visit Amy, she was able to come home months ago, so why? why was he there?
He was greeted by Aunt March's house maid who quickly invited him in, Laurie had been a current visitor over the past couple of weeks.
"Hello my boy." The old lady said with a twisted smile. "I'm sure you've done my bidding? Because if you haven't," She paused. "I could just so easily cut off young Josiphines job, and drive that wretched family into the ground." The last couple of words were said with such darkness, it even scared Theodore.
"Yes ma'am." He grimaced. "It's done."
"Take that ring off." She demanded.
"It's Mr. Mar-"
"I don't care take it off! Or Amy will cease to come to Europe!" Aunt March snarled.
Yes, he wasn't lying, Laurie had done Aunt March's bidding, of which was to call it off with Abby, so she would be more willing to go to Europe. The only problem now, was to convince Abby to go.
The young boy slid the ring off his finger, and put it in his pocket.
"Good boy, now leave, I have no use for you now, and stay away from my Abigail."
...
Jo and Laurie walked by the lake.
"I don't understand why you broke up with her Teddy! I just don't get it."
"It was time." Laurie said, not giving Jo any sense of emotion, he couldn't, the March family mattered to him too much.
"Are you kidding? Time for you, not dear Abs." Jo chided. "She's so upset, wondering what she did wrong, and you're here saying it was the right time?"
"It might sound odd to you."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"It means don't stick your nose in where you don't understand Jo!"
...
A few weeks had passed, and phase two of Aunt March's plan was just beginning.
Meg and Johns wedding.
This is where her wicked plan would come together.
The cold winter mornings had been exchanged for crisp spring ones. Though Amy wouldn't have been seen dead decorating for christmas, her and Beth were happily tying flower bouquets to the fences for their sisters wedding day.
"I can't believe it's my wedding day." Meg beamed, looking at her pretty self in the mirror.
"Me either." Abby and Jo said simultaneously.
Both sisters had mixed feelings about their sister being married off, Jo's reason being she didn't want to lose her sister to a man, Abby's was that the marriage would tie the Laurence family even closer to hers, not something she particularly wanted at this time.
"What's wrong?" Meg asked her sisters in her motherly tone she used when she wanted answer, but more subtly than usual.
"Nothing..." Jo said, Abby nodded, fixing megs flower crown.
"Abby.....Jo!"
"We can leave, we can leave right now!" Jo said desperately, kneeling in front of the girl dressed in white.
"What?"
"I can make money! I'll sell stories, I'll do anything - cook, clean! I'll even work in a factory, make a life for us three!" Jo guestured to Abby.
"But, Jo..."
"You! You can be an actress and Abby! oh Abby you could play your music! Let's run away together!"
"I want to get married."
"Why?"
"I love him."
"Don't be daft! You'll be bored of him in two years and Abby and I will stay interesting forever!"
Abby stayed silent throughout this debacle, she had to agree with Jo, it would be nice to get out of here.
"Just because my dreams are not the same as yours doesn't mean they are unimportant."
Jo flopped on the bed, disappointed.
"I want this." Meg told to the girls. "And i'm not afraid of working and struggling, but I want to do it with John."
"I just can't believe you're leaving us, don't you agree Abby?"
Abby thought for a moment.
"It was going to happen one day, and maybe, just maybe, if giving up childhood means growing up, it can't be all that bad, even if we have to leave it behind." She whispered the last part, slightly tearing."No one is leaving anyone." Meg confirmed. "Let's enjoy this." She smiled whilst the girls nodded.
...
It was a nice ceremony, modest but nice, spring flowers hung from anywhere Beth and Amy could reach, and white cloth dressed all the chairs and tables.
All the guests danced around the March front yard, even Aunt March was sitting at a table.
Though it was a happy day, each person who was in attendance was fighting their own little battle, which made the few hours of dancing even more appreciated.
Soon the band struck up a more boppy tune, all the guests partnered up and danced and danced.
Abby quickly offer Mr. Laurence her hand, he was reluctant at first, but the frail man still was able to dance like he would have long ago.
The bridge of the song quickly approached, Mr. Laurence got tired of dancing and retired to the table where Hannah and Aunt March were sat at, only Aunt March turned up her nose and went to the food table when he arrived.
Abby was left alone in the sea of people.
She was swept away by another partner, but only this one was young and nimble.Teddy.
