Genesis: The Animal Within

Chapter One

(Sonic's POV)
I can remember this day like it was yesterday. In fact, that's when it happened. Yesterday. Zarya and I were walking around the neighborhood when the most unexpected thing just happened.

(No POV)
Sonic and Zarya always walked around the neighborhood in the evenings. Their friends always thought that they had something to hide, but in the end, these two either end up with food to eat or they make it back home early. One evening, they did their usual routine. "Alright, guys," Zarya called, "Sonic and I are going out. Again." "You better bring food for us," yelled Arkayna, Zarya's sister, "either that, or you come back early." "Okay, okay, we will," Sonic replied, "but you don't have to yell at us." All that came from the auburn haired princess was a rude'pfft'. The Blue Blur and the young princess almost lost their cool before leaving the house.

(A little while later)

Sonic and Zarya seemed to be heading home when the most unexpected thing just happened. Out of nowhere, a wolf crosses paths with them. "Hey, little guy," said Zarya. She is trying to pet the wolf, but he is resisting. "What's the matter, fella," Sonic gently asked. The wolf is pointing to the left, causing Sonic and Zarya to look in that direction. There was suddenly a rustling sound coming from the bushes. "Huh, what was that about," Sonic asked, looking at the bushes. "I think that this wolf was hiding from something," Zarya replied, "or someone." "Excuse me," an unidentified voice addressed. Sonic and Zarya instantly jumped, quickly turned around and faced who was addressing them. This person had a shock of black hair on his head, dark brown eyes and peach skin. He appeared to be quite muscular. He was sporting a lab coat, black pants and suade orthopedic shoes. He appeared to be a scientist. "Might I ask if you've seen a wolf nearby," he asked in a German accent. "Wish I could help, but I haven't seen this wolf at all, Sir," Zarya replied," isn't that right,  Sonic?" "Uh, yes," Sonic replied, "no way have any of us seen a wolf in these streets." They both ended up smiling awkwardly at the scientist. "Hmm, he must be in the woods then," said the scientist, "thank you for your help. I'll be on my way." "Okay then," Zarya replied, "good luck." "Bye," Sonic said as the scientist walked away. "Okay, sweetie, you can come out now," Zarya whispered. The wolf slowly came out of the bushes he was hiding in. He started licking Sonic's face, which made him laugh. The wolf then licked Zarya's face, which made her giggle. The wolf then suddenly departed from Zarya and Sonic, running to a nearby lake. "Bye," Sonic and Zarya said in unison. "Race you home, Sonic," Zarya said before she started running home. "Hey, no fair," Sonic replied, and he managed to keep up with Zarya.

(After the run home)
Sonic and Zarya entered the house and saw their friends Arkayna, Emerald, Piper, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow and Silver watching TV. "So," Arkayna bitterly said, "what happened." "Arkayna, there's no reason to feel bitter," Sonic replied, "but it was the usual." "Pfft, whatever," said Shadow. Piper shook her head, then saw a red mark on Sonic's cheek. "Uh, Sonic," she asked, "what's that red spot on your cheek?" "Red spot," Sonic asked. "I see it as well," Knuckles said, "on your left cheek." "You guys are crazy," Sonic scolded. "They're not crazy, Sonic," Tails said. "If you don't believe us," Em added, "then just go to the bathroom." "And speaking of red spots on cheeks," Silver cut in, "Zarya, you seem to have a red spot on your cheek too." "I do," Zarya asked, and she immediately ran to the bathroom. "Hey, wait up, Z," Sonic called. He sped to the bathroom as quickly as he could. The mirror in the bathroom was big enough for 2 people to look, and so, they found the spots on their faces. Sonic could see the red spot on his left cheek, and Zarya spotted a red spot on her right cheek. "How did this happen," Sonic asked. "Hmm, I did feel a sharp something piercing my cheek when that wolf licked my face," Zarya replied, "do you think that the wolf scarred our faces." "I think so," said Sonic. They both headed back to the TV room (Sonic wanted to apologise, for the most part), but for some reason they started to feel dizzy. They stopped, and managed to not bump into anything, or each other. They did however bump into Knuckles, who wanted to use the restroom. "Sorry," the 3 of them said in unison, which led Knuckles running to the restroom and Sonic and Zarya catching up with their friends in the TV room. "So, uh, did you find them," Em eagerly asked. "Yep," Zarya answered, "it's quite the coincidence really." "Yeah," Sonic added, "believe us or not, but on the way back we met up with this wolf. He was hiding from what appeared to be a scientist, I think. And as soon as we told him to come out, as expected, he thanked us. I think that one of it's fangs must have pierced our cheeks whilst he was thanking us." "Ha," Arkayna sighed, "does anyone but you believe your lies?" "Arkayna," Silver reprimanded, "maybe this story might be true." "Thank you, Silver," Sonic thanked, "and with that in mind, let's get something to eat. I'm paying." Everyone immediately perked up at the mention of food. Smiles lit up (except for Shadow) because Sonic knew what they wanted. As soon as he was about to open the door, Sonic felt dizzy again, but this time, he fainted! "Sonic," Piper screeched, "SONIIICC!" It was not long before Zarya fainted too. Her head hit the stand by the door before landing on the floor. "ZARYA," Tails screeched. Arkayna hustled to the two, panicking. "No, no, no, no, no," she said in a panic. Knuckles has just come out of the restroom and is shocked to see the display he's introduced to. "Knuckles, get Zarya to her room ASAP," Arkayna commanded. Knuckles nodded, picked Zarya up and carried her to her bedroom upstairs. "Silver, get Sonic to his room now," Arkayna commanded. Silver nodded, used his psycokenesis to pick Sonic up and took him to his bedroom upstairs. Knuckles came back downstairs and saw Arkayna tearing up and Em holding her hand in comfort. "What was that about," Knuckles asked. Arkayna took a deep breath and bowed her head down. "Sonic and Zarya fainted," Em replied. Silver came back downstairs, saw Arkayna tearing up and offered to hug her. "What do you think that was all about," Tails asked. "Beats me," Shadow sarcastically replied (or, at least it sounded like sarcasm), "just make sure that they are alright." "Why don't you do it," Piper scolded. "Because I'm the Ultimate Life Form," Shadow replied, "I have ultimate things to do." "And this is one of them," Piper yelled, "now, get your butt in there! NOW!" "You can't tell me what to do," Shadow scolded. "Yeah I can," Piper retarded, "I'm technically older than you. Have you seriously forgotten that I'm 119 years old?" Realizing that Piper was older than him, Shadow sighed, got up from his seat and walked to the stairs. "I'm coming with," Tails suddenly said. Arkayna rose her head up, wiped the tears off of her face and smiled as Tails and Shadow went in to check on Sonic and Zarya.
