Genesis: The Animal Within

Chapter Eight

Whilst all that was happening with the rest of the group, Arkayna, Zarya and Sonic were just hanging out. This hangout session wouldn't end how you think it would end though.

A sugar rush that simply won't crash:

Arkayna, Zarya and Sonic were in sullen silence as they tiptoed their way into the living room. They slid onto the couch and let out a sigh of relief to break the silence. "What do you think we should do," Arkayna asked. "I don't know," Zarya replied, "maybe watch a movie or something." "Good idea," Sonic said, " just make sure that it's not gonna be boring." The girls afterwards laughed for a while. "I'll make the popcorn," Arkayna sang as soon as everyone stopped laughing. "Oh yeah," Zarya enthusiastically replied, "nobody makes popcorn like you do, sis." "Well, I prefer chilli dogs," Sonic added, "but every once in a while, it's nice to have something else, like popcorn." "Hmm, I think that there's still some chilli dogs left," Arkayna said. Without a single second to waste, Sonic sped to the kitchen, grabbed the remaining chilli dogs from out of the fridge and popped them in the microwave. Arkayna and Zarya caught up to the blue hedgehog who was staring at the microwave, repeatedly tapping his foot impatiently. "Uhh, Sonic," Zarya asked, "are you seriously gonna eat nine chilli dogs all at once?" "It's not like I should eat these all at once," Sonic replied, "it's just that I want to." "Alright, dude, have it your way," Arkayna sighed. She then walked to the cupboard above her and grabbed the popcorn kernels, salt and butter flavoured popcorn spice. She levitated them above her as she crouched down to the cupboard below to grab a large, orange bowl. She placed everything on the counter top and checked in with Sonic and his chilli dogs. Her searching eyes found Sonic back in the living room with Zarya. "Hurry up, sis," Zarya called, "this movie is nothing without popcorn." "Coming," Arkayna replied. She felt as if the microwave is not worth anything, so she used her magic to quickly make the popcorn. Meanwhile, Sonic and Zarya were scrolling through their movie recordings list. "Hey, Zarya," said Sonic, "besides aggression, being more carnivorous and competitiveness, what else seems totally strange ever since we fainted?" "Well, Sonic," Zarya replied, "my fingernails and toenails have grown faster than usual, I have to shave at least 3 times a day, my senses of smell and hearing have increased a bit, I'm a bit more moodier than Arkayna and I sometimes hallucinate. You?" "The same," Sonic replied," except that I don't need to shave, because I have fur." Zarya couldn't hold back her laughter anymore, and so she giggled at that last part that Sonic said. "Who's ready to watch a movie," Arkayna sang. "We are," Sonic and Zarya replied in unison. Arkayna sat herself in between her sister and her friend and brought the freshly made popcorn, three glasses and 2 bottles of soda by means of telekinesis. "So, what movie are we gonna watch," Arkayna enthusiastically asked. "The Financial Burden," Zarya said in a spooky voice. "It's a horror comedy that shows the unforseen consequences of a dude who used to be in a mafia that didn't pay any rent for 5 years," Sonic added, "and apparently the apartment complex he lives in is built under an ancient burial site, and the building manager can speak to the undead." "Ooh, I can't wait to see how this story unfolds," Arkayna said. Everyone started laughing as Zarya started this out of control movie.

(After the movie)
Arkayna, Zarya and Sonic were still gasping and laughing a few minutes after the movie ended. "Did you...see that guy...," Sonic gasped. "With the...and the...and the look on that woman's face," Zarya replied, laughing. "Best horror comedy ever," Arkayna exclaimed before everyone started laughing again. The laughter stopped when Sonic and Zarya started shivering all of a sudden. Arkayna noticed the moment she tried regaining her breath. "Are you guys ok," she asked. "I think so," Zarya replied, "but I don't remember the forecast calling for a cold night." "I told you guys not to have too much soda," Arkayna sighed, "and now you're in a darn sugar rush." "I guess that's the case," said Sonic. "Go outside and run that extra energy off," Arkayna commanded, pointing to the door blindly, "and once that sugar rush reaches sugar crash mode, get back inside as soon as you can." Without a second warning, Sonic and Zarya rushed out of the house whilst Arkayna started cleaning up. Outside, Sonic and Zarya were taking their friend's advice, running through the field outside their home. They stopped at the edge and looked at one another in grief. "S-S-Sonic, I d-don't think that we're in a su-sugar rush," Zarya doubtfully said. "Wha-what's," Sonic replied, "what's happening to..." That was interrupted by a sudden flash of pain going through their minds that made them scream in anguish. "I never felt like this," Zarya groaned, clenching her chest in her hand and slowly crouching "since Arkayna and I accidentally released the Spectral Dragon." "I know nothing about spectral dragons," Sonic groaned, doing the same thing as Zarya did, "but this is giving me..." Another flash of pain went through their minds and they screamed in response to that pain. Zarya slowly rose her head and looked around. She then spotted the gate that was nearby and slowly walked to it. Sonic looked at his friend painfully walking to the gate and decided to follow her. Their hearts were pounding heavily, their bodies felt like they were on fire with each step they took. They fortunately made it to the gate considering how much pain they were in. Zarya opened the gate using all of her strength that she could maintain, then she and Sonic shuffled out. Before they could go any further, another flash of pain rushed not only through their minds, but also through their bodies and they screamed in terrifying anguish. Their bodies couldn't handle the pain anymore and so Sonic and Zarya fell down. Still shuddering in pain, they decided to keep on going, but their bodies restricted them from going any further. A sudden urge forced their heads to swiftly look upwards. Their eyes squinted as they were staring at the Full Moon. Struggling and painful groans turned to aggressive and animal like growls as Sonic and Zarya were beginning to change. Sonic's ears became more elongated and wolf-like, whilst Zarya's ears manifested from the sides of her head to the top of her head. Sonic's teeth grew into sharp fangs and his muzzle changed in order to accompany them, whist Zarya's teeth also became sharp fangs even though her muzzle remained the same. Sonic's hands grew in size and his fingernails turned into sharp claws, so much so that his gloves couldn't stay intact for much longer and the fragile material came apart, whilst Zarya's hands also grew a bit in size and her fingernails turned into sharp claws. Sonic's body became more muscular, his fur became denser and the colour changed from royal blue to bluish-gray with a white circular spot on his torso showing where his stomach is, the tips of his quills turning white and his peach skin on his face turned gray and white tuffs of fur grew on his wrists, whilst Zarya's hair increased in length but also manifested on her hands, her torso, all the way down to her legs, so much so that her clothes tore and her fur seeped out of the clothes. Finally, Sonic's toenails grew intensely as his shoes turned into spiked cleats, whilst Zarya's toenails also grew intensely, but they burst out of her boots. The transformation is now complete. Sonic and Zarya were on all fours, still shivering and gasping in anguish. They looked up, stared at the Moon and gave a long and anguishing howl. They then looked at each other and jumped up in fright at what they saw. "Sonic, what happened to you," Zarya asked in a deep and raspy voice. She then closed her mouth with her hand, but then saw what happened to them. She and Sonic got up and looked at themselves. "Zarya, what's happened to us," Sonic asked in a deep and raspy voice. "I don't know," Zarya replied, "but we can't let anyone else see us like this." With that, Sonic and Zarya ran far away, leaving Arkayna and headquarters behind.
