Patrick Brown had been caught by a traffic cam jaywalking twenty minutes ago in this same spot. Chloe stood where he had last been seen and looked around, wondering where he could have gone and with what objective. Meanwhile, from inside the car, Azazel had texted the managers of each department of Lux: accounting, supply, security... After making sure that everything was alright at the club, she was finally able to breathe.
She shove her phone into her pocket and looked up at the detective. "Well?"
Chloe returned to the car, getting into the driver's seat and sighing tense. "He's gone."
"Great, can we go?"
"No."
Azazel scoffed and looked at her. "Why are you so hell bent on finding him?"
"Well, he killed someone, Azazel."
"Yeah, but you could wait for backup, or till you had more to find him," Azazel said, "But you decided to come here, taking me, a civilian, without backup or anything. Is something wrong?"
Chloe looked out the window with some remaining patience, but then lowered her eyes to her lap, resigned. "A couple of months ago the same thing happened. A whole lot of people died. And back then we only stopped it because Lucifer was here." She sighed. "He's not here. We have to stop that demon before he kills more people and the same thing happens, because this time we are alone."
"Detective..."
"Yeah, I know. We're not alone-alone."
"Detective."
"We have you and Amenadiel. And now at least I know what I'm dealing with, but still I—"
"Detective!" Azazel snapped, making the detective shut up. She pointed somewhere in the distance. From an weapons shop, Patrick came out and walked into the alleys, getting lost in the shadows.
"Come on." Detective Decker stepped out of the car and ran after him, followed by Azazel who shouted at her to stop.
Where the Hell is Lucifer?
Detective Decker, gun in hand, got into the alley, where a very calm Patrick was walking in the distance. "Patrick Bown! Stop! LAPD!" Shouted Chloe, aiming at him, but the young man kept on walking.
Azazel arrived after the detective and stopped next to her. The stolen body of Patrick was about to come out to the street from the other side. The sense of urgency of the detective had gotten stuck to her skin, and the mere thought of Belial defiling Patrick's body by making him kill people suddenly became unbearable. "Belial!" She called, taking a step forward, leaving Chloe behind, but she could feel the detective's eyes drilling the back of her head when she realised Azazel knew the name of the demon.
Belial stopped and looked over her shoulder. Azazel thought she saw a creepy half grin, as if he was pleased of being discovered or maybe recognised. But then he turned fully, revealing the gun he had just bought. He rose it and aimed at the detective. Azazel only had enough time to jump in front of her before hearing a loud, dry sound and falling down. When she hit the floor she felt the pain, but it didn't come from the fall, but from the hole on her torso.
"Azazel!" Chloe flew to her side and checked on her. She had expected the youngest celestial to be alright, just like Amenadiel would have been, but she found blood. Azazel groaned and laid on her back, putting pressure on the wound like she had seen people do on TV. Chloe pulled her phone and dialled 911 while she pressed Azazel's hands against the bullet wound. Some screams of scared and fleeing people were heard in the background until they completely left the proximities and silence reigned.
