He wasn't.
----
"ELA, guys..."
Kihyun curiosly glanced over his shoulder, seeing that one of his friends had walked up behind him with his head hung forward in exhaustion.
Immediately trying to lift the male's spirits, he lifted a hand to ruffle his soft, black curls. "Cheer up, Hyungwon. I doubt she'll make us write another essay."
"Another essay!?" Minhyuk cried out, his eyes going wide with utter hate at just the word 'essay.' "She better not! She's already made us write like 10!"
Hyungwon's sigh couldn't have been more full of despair. Though some might have thought he was faking it, he really was tired, not just of the absurd work-load, but he hadn't been able to sleep at all the night before, so the extent of his exhaustion wasn't just figurative, but literal, too. "The sad thing is you're not even exaggerating..."
"I know!"
Kihyun simply laughed in amusement, shaking his head. Contrary to his friends, he actually liked ELA; and besides, Ms Kim wouldn't assign anything too hard... would she?'
----
"Poems! Freaking poems!"
Minhyuk's voice was loud with distraught, his arms flying around in the air as he tried to express his displeasure of the whole situation. He took a few deep breaths to try and calm himself before gradually sinking into his seat. "I freaking hate poems... What are we even supposed to write about?"
Hoseok glanced up from the piece of food he had been staring at--just to keep himself from instead staring at Hyungwon. "Love, maybe?" he suggested gently, setting his chin on his palm, looking to his dramatic friend. His gaze was quite thoughtful. "Or maybe pain... or loss... or happiness... or maybe even all four."
Minhyuk let out an even louder whine.
"Hey," Kihyun smiled, reassuringly rubbing his friend's thigh. He would have instead rubbed his back, yet with the way the blonde was sitting, there was no way he could have reached it. "Don't worry, it shouldn't be too bad. I'll help you."
"Can you help me, too?"
Ah...
With a hesitant intake of air, Kihyun turned his attention from his best friend to the male who managed to make his heart jump with just a word. The butterflies dancing gracefully within his stomach left him feeling almost sick, and the sensation just became harder to bare when their eyes met and his body surged with warmth. "Of course, Changkyun." He tried maintain his smile, yet today he was having the hardest time faking it. Normally it wasn't so difficult.
"Alright! Cool! Oh, that reminds me." Changkyun slowly leaned in from across the lunch table, keeping his direct eye contact with Kihyun as he did so. The intensity of his gaze left the older male's poor head spinning. "I plan on going out for a drive today, just to get out, and I know you like drives, so do you wanna come? I'll let you choose the music and everything." His eyebrows raised suggestively, and almost as if on reflex, Kihyun's gaze was drawn to his piercing. It was like the younger knew what he was doing, and he took pride in it.
"S-sure. Just text me what time you wanna meet up and I'll be ready."
"Actually, I was thinking I'd just go right after school."
