“Hey, babe,” Angel said into her phone, “Yes, I’m back, and safe. Totally intact,” she sighed and rolled her eyes. “Andy, I am stepping into my apartment right now, totally unscathed.”

Angel walked into her New York loft, a small smile playing on her face as she listened to her adopted daughter/sister rant about how she should stop working for a secret terrorist organization and just go back to being a freelance murderess because, somehow, that was safer.

“Andy,” Angel sighed, “I know, my intuition is going haywire too, but I’ll be fine, ok?” she paused, listening as Andy asked about her latest freelance assignment.

“Indonesia was fine,” she answered, placing her keys on her entry table, and switching on the lights, “I like it there. It was a clean easy kill, Andreana, no one would know it was me, you worry too much, lovely.”

Angel walked to her kitchen and took out an ice cold beer from the fridge, “Totally amazing place, Andy, I swe--”  she broke off as she noticed the file on her kitchen counter.

“Shit,” Angel swore, “Someone’s been in my apartment, I’ve got to go, babe.” She switched off her phone and cleared its history. She sniffed the air, and got nothing. There was no lingering scent. If someone had been in her apartment, it was a while ago. She moved slowly towards the file, quickly taking off her jacket along the way and spreading her wings, just in case. Focusing her senses to detect the slowest human breath, she deduced she was alone in her apartment.

Angel gingerly picked up the file and immediately saw the HYDRA seal. She sighed, then opened it. The date read a full month ago. She scanned the file, trying to quickly garner information. Czechoslovakia, immediate extraction, contact this number, Winter Soldier.

She texted Andy, telling her it was another assignment, then she called the number.

“Rumlow,” the man on the other end answered.

“Angel,” she said curtly.

“Took you long enough,” Rumlow said, “Where were you?”

“That’s my business,” she answered, “How long has he been in hiding?”

“A few weeks,” he answered in a bored voice, “You ready for another job?”

“I don’t have a choice, do I?” Angel sighed.

Rumlow chuckled, “Be ready in 10 minutes.”

Angel sighed, “Well there goes my plan for a good night’s rest, then.”

“How long has he been out there, exactly?” Angel asked as she tied her hair up in a high ponytail.

“6 days,” Rumlow answered over the hum of the plane engine, “At least six days since the pickup date. We sent you the file just so that you’d be on standby. Didn’t think you’d be on another business transaction.”

Angel nodded curtly as she tightened her gloves and boot buckles, she fastened her bag closer to her body and rolled her shoulder blades, stretching out her wings.

“Won’t it be cold, just wearing a halter top and jeans?” Rumlow asked, cocking an eyebrow.

“It’s relatively warm here,” Angel shrugged, signaling for them to open the plane door, “Just have my cash ready when I bring him back,” and with that she jumped off the plane and into the cold night. She dove for a few seconds, just enough to get out of the plane’s jet stream, and spread her wings.

She flew over the small Czech town, looking for her prey. She dove closer, knowing that the night would shroud her and her large wings again.

Hunt number two, she thought as she glided above the little houses by the mountain, something just isn’t right here.
