(sorry i was watching millionaire detective balance: unlimited while i wrote this)

your evening ended with saiki walking you home. even though you were against it, he did it just to calm HIS nerves. his parents waved you off. you two didn't exchange any words and walked side by side in silence, but when you rounded a certain corner, you felt a chill go down your spine. there was a boy hiding behind a light post. holding back the desire to screech at the top of your lungs, you tugged on saiki's shirt and pointed in the direction of the boy. his eyes widened a little, but he didn't seem too surprised.

*oi, akechi! what are you doing there?*

akechi? saiki knew this person?

"oh, saiki! you finally noticed that i was following you! well,maybeyouhadalreadyknownsincei'malmost90%sure yourpsychicpowersallowyoutoseewhereiamso why are you even trying to hide it? oh! there's a girl with you? doesshehappentoknowabouthesepowers, too? welli'llmakesurethatifindoutbefore

she does hahahaha!"

"..." you squint your eyes at him. that boy had issues. his purple eyes were completely devoid of any *reasonable* emotion, and blond bangs covered his forehead to stop short of those eyes. even under the dim street lamp, you could tell he was a bit psychotic. he kept laughing at his own discovery and all you and saiki did was wait for his fit to be over. not once did he blink.

*akechi. go home.* saiki furrowed his eyebrows and led you along the path away from the blond while heaving a sigh.

"i'll wait for you to come home before i leave to sleep! i bet you know that i'll be waiting!" he shot you a death glare and shuffled behind the lamp post, feet and little tufts of blond hair sticking out.

"...who was that?" you felt akechi's gaze locked on the back of your neck, and you instinctively covered your skin to bat away the feeling.

before speaking, saiki took a moment to think about how he should answer.

*how am i supposed to tell her that he's an old friend of mine who claimed i had psychic powers and found me out when i saved him from bullies multiple times only to almost completely destroy my elementary school building?*

*...he's my stalker.* saiki thought that was good enough.

"you LET him stalk you?" you chuckled at the thought, steps synched up with saiki's beside you.

*i never said that, but it's close.*

the evening breeze caressed your skin, and you let your guard down. there was really nothing to fear when you were beside saiki.

*like the wind?* he said out of the blue.

"yes...how'd you know?" saiki raised his hand and the breeze ceased. so he was controlling it?

*i do this for myself sometimes. i thought you'd enjoy it even though i can't read your thoughts.* that made a small warmth pool inside you. you flashed him a smile, which he returned with a gentle gaze. before talking to him, it didn't seem like saiki was one to like the little things.

you reached the gates of your house, but they psychic grabbed your arm before you went through them, and used his levitation to twirl you back around. face to face, he locked eyes with you. without knowing it, you felt that you knew what he wanted you to remember.

*i'm trusting you, y/n. please keep that promise.*

you nodded gently, and eventually, he let go of your arm to walk away.

it was like the burden of the entire planet was on you, or rather, on saiki.

he has a lot of responsibility for the world...

you shook your head, releasing the thought. he wouldn't want pity. the gate clicked as it shut behind you, and you took one last look at saiki before he vanished. so he's real.

"y/n! dinner's in the fridge~!" your mother calls from upstairs as you open the unlocked door.

"mom! why isn't the door locked? what if it wasn't me that entered?" you prodded at your temples, remembering that one time a robber broke in after the door was left unlocked.

"y/n, you know we don't live there anymore." your mother murmurs, coming out of her room with reading glasses sitting on her small nose. you looked at the floor, embarrassed. all that robber took was some change out of a drawer and a couple of pens from your dad's office the first time, but it made you nervous because the robber kept coming back. your family didn't even lock the doors after that. you guys didn't realize someone had been entering until almost half a year later when the robber stole your dad's car keys and drove away.

"i know, but its bound to happen again if you keep forgetting to lock the doors." there was a simple answer.

"yes, yes, i know. but even then, nothing can hurt us while we live here. there's no way robbers will try things in this area." she said this with a determined smile on her face.

you took off your school back and hobbled up the stairs, walking past your short mother.
"it better stay that way," you mutter under your breath.

the old neighbourhood you lived in was notoriously famous for returning thieves. even after your neighbours told your parents to take precautions, they brushed the 'impossible' comments off. the young couple were used to living in safe and secure places, but when your dad lost his job, you couldn't afford to stay in the large house you once had. because of that, you had to move around far more than the normal person does, and your most recent departure lead you far away enough from your old school that you had to switch. you had to leave the friends you made in elementary in the first year of high school.

your room was shrouded in darkness, and you were so tired you didn't even bother turning the lights on, swinging your bag onto the floor right beside your dark oak table. your dad finally got another well paying job, so you were able to move into a safer neighborhood.

"are you eating dinner, y/n?" your mother called.

"no. i'm gonna head to sleep after studying a bit."

she made a noise of approval and walked back into her room.

...

now that it was silent, your mind was plagued with saiki.

you could tell that the next days would be weird. your eyelids started drooping, and before you knew it, you fell asleep without even washing up, in your uniform.

...but on your roof, saiki stood with a small smile on his face.

"...she'll regret sleeping like that."

he looked around before teleporting back home.
