^McKenna's PoV^

All my life, I was in the dark, I had no background, no roots. I had no family, my mother and father had given me up when I was six months old. All I'd been left with was a ring, and a note, which simply had my name on.

McKenna Levi Grace Harte-Lane.

They never found my parents, no one knew who I belonged to or where I came from, so I grew up in care, I was passed from pillar to post, one family to another. No one ever really wanted me. It was good for a short time and then I guess the novelty wore off. I got older, moodier, and no one takes in the teenagers, it's easier being a little kid. No one can properly understand you when you're five or six, but when you turn 12, 13, 14, 15, that's when they don't want you. They decide you're too much trouble and they write you off.

So when I turned 16, I decided I'd had enough, I'd had enough of being rejected and swept aside and I took myself down to the only place I'd be able to feel like I belonged and I enlisted to join the army.

Now, two years on I was almost 18 and I was a qualified CMT and I had a family of sorts, one of the Captains, who'd trained me and mentored me, Charles(Charlie) James took me in, him and his wife Molly. They gave me a stable family unit and I finally had people to depend on.

Now, I was two days away from going on my first tour, and I was happy, but I was also terrified. Charlie had arranged for a get together with the other members of 2 Section, I knew Maisie and I knew Frankie or as the other referred to him as Fingers, and I knew Monk, Rab, Brains and Kingy as well but I didn't really know the other CMT Georgie. Our paths hadn't crossed.

"Kenna? Sweetheart are you decent? Frankie and Maisie are here." Mollys voice was quiet from the other side of my closed door but I smiled, I walked to the door and opened it and I practically dragged her inside.

"What's up?" Molly asked and I gestured to my bed which had three potential outfits laid out. I was stood in my pyjamas.

"I don't know what to wear!" I said and I flopped down on my bed. Molly chuckled and she pulled me off of the bed and we both looked at the outfits.

The first outfit was a black t-shirt with short dungarees and a white and grey checked flannel to go with it and I would probably wear my white Doc Martins.

The second outfit was a pair of white washed shorts and a pink cami top with a white thin cardigan.

The third outfit was something warmer, a pair of dark blue jeans, a black cropped vest top and a mustard yellow long cardigan.

"I'd go with the jeans sweetheart. It's going to get cold later. I'll let you get changed and I'll get you a drink." Molly kissed my cheek and walked out of my room.

I hang up my other outfits and get dressed into the outfit Molly chose and then I let my dark chocolate brown hair hang down my back in soft waves. From having braids in last night.

I stop for a moment, and move the ring that's around my neck between my thumb and finger. The only thing that I had of my mum and dad. I kiss it, before tucking it into my shirt and wrapping my cardigan around myself.

Then I grab my phone and head downstairs I could already hear the chatter of everyone, I wondered if anyone else had arrived in the time it took me to choose an outfit.
