Orion hadn't been kidding when he said I wasn't leaving his sight. I had moved into his room without delay and my lessons were continued, only with Orion sitting in the corner. He had his laptop with him, making sure he was still keeping up with all the royal stuff. He was to be crowned king soon. We had announced to the kingdom that we were mated and they were all beyond thrilled to have their crown prince finally find his mate.
Orion's father was sentenced to a life without his magic and he was confined to a cottage that was a little ways away from the castle. He was never to leave. Magic binded him to it. It was a shock seeing Elias again. I thought I would resent him for handing me over to the enemy, but I didn't. He didn't protest against his sentencing. In fact, he hadn't peeped a word. It was scary to see the man so lifeless and I knew my mate hurt because of it. Orion visited him weekly. That was the only time I wasn't attached to his hip. I respected his privacy with his father.
I had also visited my parents and Ash a few times. We had decided to not tell them about the whole kidnapping part. I didn't want to lie to them or keep secrets but it was unnecessary stress. And I personally didn't want to retell that story any time soon.
Gray and Rose had finally left for The Ritual of The Pure after they decided it was safe enough to do so. They were to return in two days. There were blissfully no more attacks or ruckus from the Day Throne and they had mostly kept to themselves. However, I knew that Orion planned to discuss the alliance with Thorin once he was crowned king.
It had been a month since the kidnapping. A month with an overbearing Orion. Which was also why I was giving him the silent treatment.
Was it petty? Yes.
Did I care? No.
Was it fun? Yes.We sat at the dining table, the room quiet as we ate. There was no Gray to say stupid stuff and no Rose to encourage him. There was also no me lighting up the room with my awesome personality. The stick that I had thought disappeared from Orion's ass was back and I was tempted to pull it out and whack some sense into him.
"We're going for a hike in the forest," my mate says. It was dark, letting me know the forest surrounding our kingdom was safe. It was a different story during the day. I don't respond, continuing to eat my pancakes. Why my mate wanted to go for a hike was beyond me but it would be nice to get out of the castle. Although, I wouldn't be admitting that aloud. "Dress warm," he says. Winter had descended and wasn't going easy on my human body, but I enjoyed it all the same. It was a shame we didn't get any snow though. It would have been fun to make another snowman.
Maybe next time it won't turn out so hideous.
When we walked out from the grand entrance, I wore many layers to combat the cold. Orion merely wore a long sleeve with black cargo pants. No jacket. I sigh, my breath turning into a misty puff with the low temperatures. Oh, to be a mage and never cold. We greeted whoever walked past and I waved at a young boy I recognise; Tevy. He grins and waves back before returning to his mother's side.
The people didn't know about the kidnapping either. Only a select few. Orion didn't want them to panic. However, they knew that we helped the Day Throne Prince become the king. Word of an alliance had quickly swept through and I knew they were relieved. No more attacks. No more being cautious. They also knew Elias, Orion's father, was no longer king. Again, the reasoning behind this had been kept on the down low, the people being told that he was no longer mentally stable to rule. It wasn't a lie. Just a half truth.
The wind was thankfully merciful as we entered the forest, reminding me of my release from the Night Lords. I was no longer the official Preserver, but I still maintained the title of Lady Starlight. Any magic from the symbol was null but I still had it etched onto my skin. However, there was one spark of magic left that would remain till I had bonded with my mate. The next time a Preserver would arise was unknown but I prayed for her. It was a lot of pressure to have the safety of an entire kingdom on your shoulders. I knew the main reason why I hadn't let that pressure get to me was because of Orion. He had kept me grounded.
