"Asami, Akane, get going. Or we'll be late." mother said. I looked at my big sister and whispered: "I don't wanna go to school..." Asami, beautiful as always, looked down at me and said: "You'll be fine. Just tell me if someone's being mean, and I'll whup that person's butt." I giggled. Asami was way to gentle to whup somebody's butt. Asami smiled and looked at me. "I'm serious you know. No one will hurt my little Akane"

"Hey, I'm NOT little!" I said.

"Girls, get going, or you'll be late" mother warned us.

"We're coming!!!" we shouted and ran after mom.

The school was a boring grey, which was typical for old fire nation schools. We lived in a little fire nation city, where my dad had a workshop. My mom was a musician and a dreamer. Asami looked a lot like her. I didn't look like anyone. Unlike my mother and sister I had straight black hair and big, dark brown eyes.

„Asami is here!" a girl in the schoolyard screamed.

Asami smiled at her. "How are you, Akiko?"

"Oh, I'm wonderful!" the girl named Akiko answered.

A few other girls joined the conversation. I sighed. Asami used to tell me that she was popular in school. No wonder. She was smart and beautiful, and I was just a first grader, afraid of bullies.

"I want you to meet my sister Akane. She's a first grader." Asami said, while holding my hand. She knew I was scared.

"U-uhm... hi" I whispered.

Asami's friends looked at me in a judgemental way. Then they screamed: "SO CUTE!!!"

Then the girl named Akiko said: "And I'm loving this deep red bow."

This bow is actually my sisters. And I don't wear my hair open. It's usually in two braids. But Asami insisted on me wearing it. She said that that way I look like mom on old photos hanging on a wall in our living room. The school bell rang and everyone went to class.
