CHAPTER TWENTY FIVE

HAVEN STOOD IN the school parking lot with jackson, lydia, and allison, engaged in a quiet conversation with one another.

stiles, scott, and the sheriff–stiles' dad–were walking out of the school. noah glanced at haven from a far, feeling his heart drop slightly but quickly snapped back to the current situation, turning to the two teens beside him.

"you sure it was derek hale?" noah asked them.

"yes!" scott sighed, wanting him to believe it was true, although he knew it wasn't.

"i saw him too." stiles added on to the lie.

"what about the janitor?" scott asked them as they continued walking.

"we're still looking."

"did you check under the bleachers? under them?"

"yeah, scott, we looked." noah raised his voice, growing annoyed with the way scott was acting about everything. "we pulled them out just like you asked, there's nothing."

"i'm not making this up." scott told him.

"i know, i believe you, i do."

"no, you don't." scott said as noah turned and face his son and his best friend. "you have this look like you feel bad for me. like you wanna believe me, but i know you don't."

noah looked at him for a moment, a breath leaving his mouth as his glanced at the school. "listen... we're gonna search this whole school. we're gonna find him. okay? i promise."

"sheriff!" an officer from afar called, gaining noah's attention.

"stay." he told them before pointing his finger at his son and narrowing his eyes at him. "both of you."

after watching his father walk away, stiles turned to scott. "well, we survived, dude. you know? we outlasted the alpha. it's still good, right? being alive?"

"when we were in the chemistry room, he walked right by us. you don't think that it heard us? you don't think it knew exactly where we were?" scott spoke, almost glaring at stiles.

stiles shrugged his shoulders, shoving his hands in his pockets. "well, then how come we're still alive?"

"it wants me in it's pack!" scott exclaimed, then lowering his voice as a few officers walked by and turned away. "but i think, first... i have to get rid of my old pack."

"what do you mean? what old pack?" stiles asked him, crossing his arms over his chest.

scott stared at him, his eyes full of guilt and sadness. "allison. jackson, lydia... haven. you."

stiles stared at him, completely taken back by the words that had just left scott's mouth. he huffed, looking away for a moment as he realized what he was trying to tell him.

"the alpha doesn't wanna kill us." stiles stared at him, his face vacant of any emotion.

scott sighed, turning his back to stiles. "it wants me to do it. and that's not even the worst part!"
