Chapter Thirteen

I woke up early the next morning. I slept with my window open, so the fresh air was dancing on my skin. Sitting up I took a deep breath ready to relax for the whole day. I walked downstairs and headed to the backyard. No one else was awake yet so I decided to take a little time. I was barefoot so the sand was hot against my feet. I looked over the ocean and something caught my eye. I saw a tanned skin, dark hair man sitting on the sand. I walk over to Coby even though everything in me tells me no to. I don't want him to know I'm scared of him though. I need to act brave and make moves no thinks I will. I plop down right next to him and stay quiet. He glances over at me and then stares at the water again.

A few moments of silence calm our minds. I can't help but to think about my parents when I watch the waves crash on the rocks. It's like everything came crashing down all at once.

Coby huffed at my presence and then stood up. He started walking away from me back to the house.

"Why do you hate me?" I asked him, making him stop and turn around.

"I don't hate you Talia" he responds in a matter of fact tone.

"It doesn't feel like that" I respond with my voice dripping with pity. I stood up so I could look him in his eyes for whatever response he scrapes up. He stays quite so I take a few steps towards him, only leaving a foot between us.

"I'm sorry" he whispers. What the hell?

"For what?"

"Telling myself to stay away from you when in reality I love you" Coby says looking at the ground.

"That doesn't make any sense" why was he so confusing? Coby throws his arms in the air and starts yelling. "I love you Talia, I don't know why, and I have no right to. My life is scary and you are so innocent and pure even though you're not! I want to love you but I don't want to break a perfect Angel like you! Every ounce of me calls to you. You have the most beautiful grey eyes, and they shine when you're upset. You talk back to me and I fucking hate it!" He moves closer to me and lowers his voice and whispers "But I'm addicted to everything about you."

I don't need to think long to know I feel the same way. He's frustrating and his words sting like knives, but I wouldn't want to have a day where I didn't see him.

I take one step closer to him leaving only inches between us. I can feel his hot breath and the smell of cologne. Without thinking I wrapped my arms around his neck and pressed my lips to his. I have to stand on my tiptoes to reach. It doesn't take him off guard and he kisses me back right away. It's deep and passionate like something he's been dying to do. He puts his hand on my hips and pulls my closer. Our lips dance together like they've been waiting to be with each other. I tangle my hand in his hair. It was softer than I thought it would be.

He stops kissing me and puts his forehead on mine. He is breathing hard and I place my hand on his chest.

"Fuck" he whispers, "You are so perfect." I laugh at his little remark.

He starts talking again. "I know we don't know much about each other, but I want to know every inch of your thoughts. I want you to know how I feel all the time. I want to spend every minute with you. Will you be my girlfriend?"

I smile at his little speech and look at his eyes. The blue melts into a black around the edge.

"Yeah sure." I say to him and he picks me up and spins us around in circles. He kisses me again and sets me down. I can't stop laughing. He hugs me tight and then lets go. I ignore the thought that this is a bad idea.

"We can tell everyone else when we get home," he says. I'm happy I don't have to do that right now. We hear the backdoor open and we jump feet apart. I look to see when the guys I don't know go sit in one of the chairs. He didn't see us. We walk back up to the house and get ready to leave. We only get one night here, but I'm thankful for it. I get to my room and pack my bags. About an hour later we were all loading into the cars. Somehow Coby managed to get us in a car alone without raising suspicion. Coby was driving and I sat next to him. We're the last car to pull out. Coby grabs my hand and holds it, brushing his thumb over my fingers. I roll down the windows and smile. Maybe life won't be that bad.

The drive was full of us joking and talking. We learned each other's favorite colors and foods. Just surface things couples should know about each other. By the time we got home it only felt like we had been driving a few minutes. All the other cars were still in the driveway and everyone was standing around the door. Coby and I give each other a strange look and then get out. Coby walks up to the door, which is wide open. Strange since no one seems to be inside later. I see a letter taped to the door. Coby stomps up to it and grabs it. He scans the words before reading it out loud.

"We're done with your games. We will take the girl" then he stops. Thats all it says? Coby's face fills with rage, he crumples the paper in his hand.

"Tomorrow we take them out" he says to everyone through gritted teeth.

"Sir, that would take all of us" someone from the crowd speaks up.

"Yeah, we only have Isaac to drive and we can't all fit" Toddy points out. Coby considers this dilemma in his head for a moment. Then he looks straight at me with full confidence.

"Talia will drive a second car" he states. Then he walks inside. The amount of emotions I feel is a large number. I'm scared to be in the gang, but I'm happy that Coby finally accepts I can handle it.
