Here goes nothing... I thought as I peered up at my new school, Walt Disney Academy. Its exterior structure kind of reminded me of the sights I used to see at home with its intimidating pillars and towers, old brick walls and large grassy area that surrounded the entire building. Home. I'd only been away from Norway for twelve hours, yet I had already begun to miss it dearly. I took a shaky sigh and dragged my luggage along the smooth pavement, making my way towards the massive glass doors at the front of the school.
I heaved the doors open and pulled my bags in along with me. I scanned the foyer and caught sight of the reception office, seeing three students already standing in a line, waiting to speak to the secretary. As I approached the line, I made my way to the back, standing behind a boy with dark skin and black hair. I awkwardly stood behind him with my three massive lilac suitcases and my violin case and glanced around the foyer, taking in the beauty of it. There was a natural golden glow which bounced beautifully off the red brick walls, the floor was covered with rich mahogany planks and in the middle of the foyer, an elegant circular cream rug tied the décor all together. As I was taking in every single detail of my new school, the girl at the front of the line interrupted me by screaming loudly.
"I want to be in dorm 525 with Snow and Wendy and you're telling me I can't?" The raven-haired girl roared, throwing her hands up in frustration. The lady behind the front desk disappeared through a door at the side and instantly appeared again with another woman who had incredibly pale skin, paler than I had, long, straight auburn hair and big, brown eyes that were almost cartoon-like.
"What seems to be the problem, Jasmine?" The lady with the cartoon-like eyes questioned, and I could almost hear the sigh in her voice.
"You put me in dorm 527 with Ariel, Aurora and Cinderella," She spat, shoving the piece of paper she had in her hand at the lady behind the desk. I assumed it was her information card as the lady took it from her and briefly glanced it before handing it back.
"Yes, I did, and it's going to stay that way for the rest of the year. If I let you change dorms, that wouldn't be fair on everyone else, now, would it? Hurry along and get ready for dinner, Mrs Mouse has other students to take care of," The lady told her sternly, dismissing her with a wave of her hand. The raven-haired girl's face turned bright red in anger and she looked at the lady in disgust. She didn't say anything else; she just turned on her heel and stomped past me, her low, black ponytail swishing with every step she took.
After that, the wait to speak to the secretary, Mrs Mouse, was very speedy. Before I knew it, I was standing right in front of the black-haired woman, smiling nervously.
"Hi, I'm, uh, Elsa Arendelle. I'm new," I told her, fiddling with the hair tie on my wrist. She gave me a warm smile and started flicking through a small stack of paper, presumably searching for my information card.
"Hello dear, I'm Mrs Mouse, the secretary," She introduced, standing up and placing a card on the desk so we could both see. "This is your information card – or student I.D – whatever you want to call it. It has your dorm number, your director's name and the school rules on it," She explained, pointing to each thing individually. I saw that my dorm was number 521 in the West Wing and my 'director'- whatever that is - was a woman called Miss Andalasia. I nodded softly in understanding at the secretary and she pulled out another piece of paper. "This is your school map, your dorm is one of these rooms in orange, the dinner hall is the bright purple room in the middle and the office is the grey box at the bottom. On your floor, you have a laundry room at the end of the corridor along with showers," She informed me, pointing again at where everything was. She handed me my last two items - my timetable and my dorm key. I gently took them from her and I put them in the back pocket of my jeans, keeping my map and my information card in my hands.
"You also have a mentor to help you get used to your surroundings for the first few weeks. She should be here any momen- Oh! There she is," The woman told me, looking past my shoulder at a girl with ocean blue eyes and long, fiery hair. She smiled brightly as she approached me and stuck her hand out for me to shake.
"Hi! I'm Ariel, it's nice to meet you. I've been set as your mentor," She introduced as I shook her hand. I smiled awkwardly and said, "Nice to meet you too, Ariel. I'm Elsa."
"Great! That should be all, Elsa. If you have any trouble with your dorm or your roommates, you can come down and speak to Mrs Skellington, who's in that room," Mrs Mouse told me, pointing at the room that she had disappeared into earlier. "We normally don't make adjustments to the dorm plans as you heard earlier when I was dealing with Jasmine, but because you're new, we want you to feel as comfortable as possible. Welcome to Walt Disney Academy," She finished with a welcoming smile. I thanked her and briefly skimmed over the back of my information card.
Breakfast is from 7:30am – 8:45am.
Lunch is from 12:45pm – 2:00pm.
Dinner is from 6:30pm – 8:30pm.
Classes start at 9:00am sharp and end at 4:00pm.
Every student must be on campus by 8pm and in their respective dorm rooms by 9:15pm.
Llights must be out by 10pm.
No girls in the East Wing and no boys in the West Wing after 8:30pm.
Everything seemed fair enough and I decided I'd skim through the rules after dinner. I picked up two of the bags that were still scattered carelessly at my feet and Ariel carried the other and my violin case.
"What dorm are you in?" She asked curiously as we made our way towards the elevator that was in the middle of the foyer. I turned my information card around and peered at the top, seeing 'WW 521' in bold lettering below my name and photograph.
"521," I answered, showing her my information card. She smiled at me excitedly as we entered the elevator. She pressed a few buttons and the elevator slowly started moving upwards.
"I'm in 527, it's only a few doors down from yours."
"Jasmine is your roommate, right?"
She visibly cringed. "Unfortunately. I try my best to love everyone, but that girl just makes me want to scream violently," She told me with a short laugh. I smiled awkwardly at her and the elevator came to an abrupt stop.
We climbed out, still carrying my bags, and made our way to my dorm. Saying I was scared to meet my roommates was the biggest understatement I could think of. I was absolutely petrified. At least Ariel was sweet. She seemed like the type of person I could confide in if my roommates were nasty like Jasmine.
"Here we are," She announced, stopping at a teal-coloured door in the middle of the hallway. We glanced at each other and she gently encouraged me to push the handle down.
