A L A D D I N

Waking up for the first time in Walt Disney Academy after being at home for two months was weird. I had almost missed Milo's sleep-talking, Hiccup's hiccuping and Eric's snoring from last year, but I couldn't complain about my new roommates. I was fortunate enough to be stuck with my three best friends, Hercules, Adam and Tarzan, for the rest of the school year.

Adam's alarm clock started blaring throughout our dorm and woke the four of us up at the young hour of six o'clock in the morning and Hercules, Tarzan and I were all using the incredible telepathy skills we'd developed over the years to plan how we were going to murder Adam as soon as he got back from his 'morning jog'.

I sighed and got up out of bed, grabbing my favourite plum coloured hoodie, an old pair of black jeans, underwear and deodorant. I made my way into the bathroom, stepping over a lot of Adam's clothes, locking the door behind me.

I rested my hands on the sink and peered up at myself in the mirror, seeing that my eyes looked tired and droopy and my shaggy, black hair was sticking up in every direction. I quickly washed my face, brushed my teeth, changed into my clothes for the day and ran a brush through my hair, trying to get it to sit properly. Once I didn't hate what was staring back at me in the mirror, I unlocked the door, taking my things with me.

"Hey," I said to the two roommates that I didn't want to kill. As I walked past Hercules, I affectionately ruffled his ginger hair. "I'm gonna head out for a bit, maybe walk around the grounds, something like that. I'll meet you in the dinner hall in about an hour," I told them, placing my pyjamas and deodorant on top of my bed. I didn't wait for a reply and pulled our dorm door open, letting it fall shut behind me as I stepped out into the East Wing hallway.

It shocked me how peaceful Disney was at 6:30am but I wasn't really complaining. At the start of every year, it took me a few days to get back into the habit of boarding school and until I did, I was always quite snarky.

As I reached the ground floor, I decided to walk past the foyer. I was completely in a little world of my own as I whistled and dragged my right hand along the smooth wall. As I turned the corner, I knocked into someone harshly and we both hit the floor. Shaking my head a few times, I saw that I accidentally bumped into someone I'd never seen before. She had long, platinum blonde hair, fair skin and ice blue eyes. I quickly stood up, brushed off my jeans and extended a hand to the girl, which she took. I pulled her up and rubbed the back of my neck sheepishly.

"Sorry about that, I wasn't paying attention to where I was going," I apologized, shifting my weight from one foot to another. She smiled at me slightly.

"It was my fault, I was looking down."

We stood awkwardly for a few seconds, neither of us saying a word. I examined the girl's face once more to confirm that I had definitely never laid eyes on her before. She shifted uncomfortably under my gaze, and I blinked for a few seconds.

"Sorry, I just- are you new? I've never seen you before."

"Yeah," She laughed quietly, "Just moved."

I nodded my head and silence greeted us again for the second time.

"Can you help me? I, uh, ventured out too far and have no idea how to get back to my dorm," She asked, unfolding the map she had in her hand.

"Sure," I said. "You seem to be in... these orange dorms, right? So, you continue straight down this corridor, turn left, go up...five flights of stairs and you should be there."

"Thank you," She said gratefully. "Last time I think I turned right and ended up in the East Wing."

I chuckled and watched as her low ponytail fell off her shoulder, reaching down her back.

"No problem. I'll see you around...?"

She nodded shyly and turned around, her sneakers squeaking slightly with every step she took. I watched as she made her way down the corridor and my eyes were glued to the nameless girl until she was fully out of sight.

Wow.

"Dude, Megan Fox is hot. You just don't have taste," Was the conversation I had walked in on as I sat down beside Eugene at breakfast.

"Where the hell did you disappear to this morning, Al? When I came back from my jog, you weren't there," Adam said as I grabbed a croissant from the basket in the middle of the table, chewing on it harshly. He gave me a pointed look and began spreading strawberry jam onto a piece of toast, which I tried my best not to gag at.

"Took a walk to try and come up with the perfect way to kill you in your sleep," I told him, smiling sarcastically. He opened his mouth to reply, but I didn't hear what he said as the girl I bumped into earlier entered the hall with Ariel by her side, Meg, Jane, Esmeralda, Tiana and Aurora following closely behind them. Her platinum blonde hair was still pulled back into a low ponytail and the shorter strands at the front had escaped and decided to softly rest against her forehead. She was wearing a stripy blue sweater and white jeans, making her look like ice compared to Ariel, who had flaming red hair and was wearing a crimson sweater.

I admired the new girl, noticing she was walking lightly on her feet and clenched and unclenched her fists that rested by her sides. My gaze quickly averted from her to Jasmine, who had entered the hall straight after the platinum blonde. Snow and Wendy were at her sides, and her gorgeous raven hair flowed freely behind her, hitting David Kawena in the face. She looked so elegant and I found myself placing my head in my hands, sighing as she took her usual seat in the middle of the hall.

"Hello? Earth to Aladdin?" Eugene said, moving his hand in front of my face a few times. I blinked quickly and turned my attention back to my table, seeing everyone staring back at me in disappointment.

"Uh, yeah?" I asked sheepishly, rubbing the back of my neck in embarrassment. Adam sighed from across me and grabbed the milk from the middle of the table, pouring it into his cornflakes. I didn't even realize there was cornflakes. Oops.

"Stop staring at Jasmine and pay attention to the people who actually love you," He stated matter-of-factly, passing the jar of Nutella to Naveen. I know he didn't mean to be harsh, but it still stung.

"Ouch," I muttered, snatching the last pancake that Tarzan was just about to take from the center of the table. He frowned but didn't say anything, and I suddenly felt bad.

"I'm just saying," Adam continued, dumping his spoon into his cornflakes and bringing it up to his mouth, "She sucks. A lot. There's a good amount of assholes in our year but they can be redeemed with, like, 100,000 years of therapy. She can't."

I couldn't even defend her because it was true. I just sighed, looking up at all of my friends' faces again. They all stared back and I could see in each of their eyes that they agreed with Adam.

"I'd rather have you crushing on Tiana instead of Jasmine, and that's saying a lot, man," Naveen confessed, giving me a pitiful smile. I watched as Adam stuck his spoon into his cornflakes again, and just like that, the table erupted into noisy chatter like the conversation we just had never happened.
