The day after Harry, Ron and Draco left for their mission in Scotland, Ginny came to visit Hermione intending to spend the night with her. Ginny always felt nervous whenever Harry would leave for longer than a day and Hermione knew both could use the company of each other.
That evening they were both cuddled up on the couch, watching TV with two big mugs of tea clutched in their hands. Hermione had finally introduced Ginny to Korean dramas and the redhead was now in love with them.
"Seriously now, what was that all about?!" Ginny was exclaiming as soon as another episode ended. "What a load of... disappearing like that on her, like he was some big hero. He should have stayed with her if he loved her that much!" She finished with a loud huff, taking a big sip of tea.
Hermione chuckled and shook her head at her friend's passionate opinion. They had just finished an episode in which the male character breaks up with the female lead in order to protect her. Even though she was amused by Ginny's reaction, she had to agree with her. It really was stupid to leave someone because you love them. If you truly love someone, aren't you supposed to stay and protect that person, to care for her and shower her with affection?
Despite herself, Hermione thought of someone, his image forming clearly in her mind, his cold grey eyes staring at her intently. Was this a good time to ask Ginny about him? They were alone and with no one to interrupt them, but would her friend understand her sudden curiosity or would she misunderstand?
Clearing her throat and placing the cup on the table, Hermione turned to Ginny, who was battling with the remote control in order to start the next episode.
"Bloody contraption! How do you work this thing..." Ginny was muttering, pressing the buttons at random.
"Ginny..." Hermione started, shifting in her spot uncomfortably.
"Hm?" her friend said distractedly. She had finally managed to get the next episode started and was gaping at the screen.
"There is something I've been meaning to ask. It's about..." Hermione hesitated for a second, before taking a deep breath and continuing more confidently. "well, it's about Draco Malfoy."
Ginny turned her head to look at Hermione. Her eyes were wide in mild surprise, but not because of the subject itself, but rather because of the tone Hermione had when she said his name.
"What about him?" she asked, carefully studying Hermione.
"Well, we used to know him from school, right?" Hermione asked, trying to sound casual.
"Right." Ginny nodded.
"And he was a Slytherin, right?"
"Right." Ginny nodded again.
"Then what was our relationship? I mean how did we get along?" Hermione added quickly, seeing Ginny's eyebrows shooting up.
"Hm" Ginny pondered for a moment, thinking how to explain it better. "You two never got along well, quite the opposite. Harry and Ron hated his guts but what you and he had was... pretty intense. Two intelligent people snapping insults at each other."
Hermione's eyes went wide, as she started at her friend in disbelief. That seemed to make Ginny realize what she had said. She cursed inwardly, scolding herself for being too honest.
"But that is all in the past, Hermione. No one really remembers all that well what happened so many years ago." Ginny said quickly, waving a hand.
"I think Mr. Malfoy still remembers." Hermione said quietly, frowning in slight concentration.
Ginny let out a chuckle despite herself.
"You know, it's pretty funny hearing you call him Mister."
