Aerin
I knew I should have stayed home. I downed the rest of the cheap, foul tasting beer, suddenly wishing I was the type to continue drinking until I was too wasted to think. If I were ever going to get stupid drunk, tonight would be the night.
Unfortunately, my practical side only allowed me to have the customary first drink. Someone had to stay sober and capable of rational thought. It might as well be the youngest member of the group because it sure as hell wasn't going to be any of the people I came to the party with.
Why did it have to be me, though? I should be getting drunk and letting loose, not babysitting the older members of my group.
I looked over to my right. The sober person definitely wasn't going to be my best friend, Perla. The eighteen-year-old was three sheets to the wind, blubbering happily between random sobs and high pitched squeaks that were supposed to be screams.
When I got my hands on Echo Flip, she was going to wish she'd never entertained the thought of cheating on Perla. Relax. I will be a good supernatural soldier and keep it a hundred percent human on how I handle her. Maybe. We'll see. No promises.
There was no reason or excuse as to why she should be off with another girl when she knew her girlfriend was at the same party. There was never a good reason or excuse, but this was just taking things to a whole new level of douchbag. Yes, females can act like douchbags. It is a term that describes anyone engaging in the behavior that falls under the definition of that word.
I sighed, shifting on the couch. What did I know, though?
We were in the living area of some kid a member of my protection detail knew. I was trapped on a couch in between my drunk best friend and said member of my detail, Donny Barrington. The place was overflowing with teenage bodies, the music was insanely loud and the neighbors were pretending not to notice that there was a raging party full of intoxicated minors happening next door. The alcohol and drugs were flowing freely and were being taken full advantage of.
I reluctantly tuned back into my drunk and slightly hysterical friend, my eyes shooting daggers at Donny, who was perched on the arm of the couch next to me.
He ignored the death glare pinging off his skin and continued his argument with his girlfriend, Jenna Wyles.
That was perfectly fine with me. I took the time to study Donny's best friend, Roz "Joker" Osric, without Donny noticing. Roz was making his way up the stairs—hopefully leaving.
Despite the fact that I couldn't stand the sight of him, I couldn't help noticing that he looked good. He had light caramel colored skin, blue-gray highlighted coal black hair, and beautiful clear sky blue eyes—the color they were when they weren't shimmering violet. His light blue eyes, coupled with his dark skin, were extremely sexy. He was decked out in loose fitting blue jeans, a red graphic tee, and tan boots. I turned away just as he turned at the top of the stairs to look in my general direction.
Whoa. That was a close one.
Jenna's eyes met mine, a knowing smirk pulling at her red painted lips. "Your friend is an ass."
I shrugged nonchalantly, running a hand through my long dark brown hair. "I could've told you that. All you had to do was consult me before you decided to date him."
Donny groaned. "You're not helping, Aerin."
"I never said I was going to."
Out of the corner of my eye, I watched helplessly as someone approached Perla, replacing her empty cup with a full one. They then placed a small pill into the palm of her hand. Perla tossed the pill back and drained the full cup of alcohol before I could even blink.
