River shot upright on the couch like a rocket. "Holy shit! That was—?"

I nodded, pulling away from Sabatin. "You know Cariad, I always knew you were a lying, manipulative son a bitch..." I let the sentence trail off as I jumped off the couch. I didn't have the energy to act all haughty; like this was a surprise to me.

Hey. We all have our secrets. You don't get mine all at once. That would be no fun.

Unfortunately, if I didn't want this particular skeleton let out of my extremely full closet, so sort of reaction had to be had.

On that note, this tantrum I was about to have was going to be epic. And violent.

Roz appeared in front of us, the lightning from the portal loud, bright, and particularly attracted to me. Bad lightning. Stop it. Behave.

Roz looked up at River, who was studying me from the edge of the couch. He was gauging my reaction and I could tell he wasn't buying what I was trying to sell. "Time to go. This girl really is about to turn into a pumpkin."

"Touch me Roscoe, and you will not only lose that limb, but I will shift just to eat it while beating you with my..."

Roz grabbed me, pulling me towards the lightning, which was a few seconds away from rubbing against me like a loving pet.

"And on that note—"

River dropped down from the couch.

"I'm going to hang out for a while," Sabatin called down.

Next thing I know I'm in the ether between worlds wondering how the hell my life had spun so drastically out control in such a short period of time.

"Ouch!"

I picked myself up off the hard ground rubbing my elbow. "So, I definitely didn't rock that landing," I groaned. "Why can't interdimensional travel be like teleporting? I don't get motion sickness from teleporting." I turned white, then green, placing my head between my knees. "And why is everyone's first instinct to attack me?"

Roz dusted his jeans off, looking sideways at me. "Do you really want me to answer that?"

I straightened up, shooting him a dirty look. "Look, I know I'm a bit sarcastic and I push buttons. That doesn't exactly scream attack."

"A little sarcastic?" he demanded. "Babe, you have sarcasm down to an art form."

I cocked my head to the side, grinning. "I do, don't I?" He rolled his eyes as I halted my elbow massage. I looked around. "Uh, where the hell are we, Roz?"

He shrugged. "I don't know."

"How do you not know where you transported us to?"

He threw his hands up. "I was kind of in a hurry. I pulled a destination off the top of my head. It was an 'anywhere but here' kind of situation."

The air surrounding us was warm and humid. We were once again surrounded by trees. In the distance there was a nicely maintained cabin. That was the only structure as far as the human and nonhuman eye could see.
