There’s a knock at my door.
“Ashlyn, it’s time for dinner.” It’s Draco. His voice had cracked over the summer, I was still getting used to hearing it.
I put down my homework and open the door. Draco is already gone, but I know my way around his house now. When I say house, I mean a mansion. It’s huge and nice, but not as huge and nice as Hogwarts. I can’t wait until I go back! I make my way downstairs to the huge dining room. Dobby, the house-elf, is serving food, fried fish with assorted vegetables. It’s actually pretty good, even though I’m not a big fan of seafood. Fish is the only part I like, and it’s only some kinds of fish.
“How’s your homework going, Ashlyn?” Mr. Malfoy asks me. He tries to talk to me as little as possible, because of my blood status, so I’m surprised at the question.
“It’s going pretty well, sir, I’m almost finished,” I say. He nods and snaps his fingers.
“Dobby, bring me more to drink!” Dobby appears and refills his glass, and I notice his ears are burned and bandaged. I hope he didn’t shut them in the oven door again! I hate how house-elves have to punish themselves, Dobby is obviously miserable here. We eat the rest of our dinner with only small talk, like most meals here.
“Hey, Ashlyn, want to go feed the peacocks?” Draco asks me when we’re finished.
“Of course!” I exclaim. I love the peacocks. They’re so majestic. After we feed the peacocks, we watch a movie in their large movie room. It’s Frozen, which we are watching for the twelfth time. The buttered popcorn is amazing.
The next day, we have to buy our stuff at Diagon Alley. All we need are our books, which we have to wait in line to get! Did every Hogwarts student decide to buy their books today? When we’re finally inside the store, I see what all of the hullabaloo is about. There’s a famous wizarding author named Gilderoy Lockhart signing books up at the front, along with Harry Potter! Oh no, I hope Draco doesn’t see him. I hear what Lockhart is saying.
“... I will be the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry!” Interesting. There’s cheers all around at that.
I hear Draco make a snide remark at Ron Weasley, who is here with Harry, along with Ron’s family. Mr. Malfoy and who I assume is Mr. Weasley get into a fistfight! Both of their wives have to break it up. Mrs. Malfoy is so mad at Mr. Malfoy when we leave. They’re still bickering while they go to buy robes, while Draco and I go to Quality Quidditch Supplies to look at brooms.
“Did I tell you that Father bought the entire Slytherin house team and me the new Nimbus Two Thousand and One? Our brooms are better than Potter’s, and I’m the new Seeker! You know, since Terence Higgs graduated.”
“Um, yes, I think you mention it about three times a week,” I tease. Mr. and Mrs. Malfoy come to get us, and we’re on our way back to the manor.
