History of Magic was so boring today. We learned, or rather didn’t listen, about the International Warlock Convention of 1289. I was too preoccupied thinking about the Chamber of Secrets. I finally was able to get Hogwarts: A History from the library, but it didn’t mention anything about the Chamber of Secrets. I decided to return it, since other students wanted to read it. I saw Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger running out of the library looking very suspicious, but I was hungry and wanted to eat dinner. Tomorrow is the first Quidditch match of the season, with Gryffindor vs Slytherin. We’re going to crush them! Our brooms are way better than theirs!
Down at breakfast, the entire Gryffindor team was sitting at their table, eating little and not speaking. Our team was looking okay, but Draco was really nervous, even if he didn’t show it. At eleven o’clock, we all headed down to the Quidditch pitch. I walked with Draco and the rest of the team, he was looking a little green.
“Don’t worry, you’ll be brilliant,” I say encouragingly. He gives me a tight smile, his way of thanks. I sit with him before the team meeting. The captain, Marcus Flint, speaks.
“Okay, team-- and Ashlyn. Ashlyn, what are you doing here?”
“Sorry, I’ll just go,” I say. I leave through the back of the tent, and find Grier and Ash in the stands. It’s not an easy task, they’re somewhere in the sea of green and silver. I eventually find them, right before the match starts. There is a roar from the crowd when Madam Hooch blows her whistle. We score six times, and Gryffindor doesn’t score, and it starts to rain. Oliver Wood, the captain of the Gryffindor team, called for a time out. I don’t know why. Probably wants to yell at his team for sucking.
They started the match again, now that it’s raining more than ever. Grier was smart, she brought an umbrella. The players went back and forth. Suddenly, there was a loud crack and Harry Potter almost fell off his broom! His arm looked bent the wrong way, and a Bludger was going for his face. He dove at Draco.
“BOOOO!” We all jeer. No attacking players in Quidditch! Harry falls off his broom! He’s knocked out.
“Potter catches the Snitch! Gryffindor wins!” Lee Jordan, the commentator, yells. WHAT???? The Gryffindors storm the field, along with some Ravenclaws and Hufflepuffs. Harry Potter is rushed off to the hospital wing. Ew, what happened to his arm? I look for Draco. He’s being yelled at by Marcus, and the Gryffindor team is laughing at him.
“You were so busy laughing at Potter, you weren’t paying attention to the Snitch! It was right by your ear!” he screams.
“I’ll do better next time, okay?!” Draco yells. He looks on the edge of tears. He walks away and notices me standing there.
“I guess you saw how much I suck, didn’t you?” he says hollowly. I give him a hug.
“Hey, it was bad luck, okay? You’ll do better next time. Besides, your flying was amazing.” He gives me a dry smile.
“Yeah, Potter looked like he was training for the ballet. Let’s go back to the common room,” he says. We join the rest of the Slytherins in our year, everyone is going to various places. We all head back to the common room. I start finishing my Charms homework.
“Ah, no, I left my book in the library,” I say. Luckily my name is on the inside cover, otherwise it would be gone immediately. I was working on my homework last night in the library after dinner, and I didn’t want to do any work on a Sunday. The essay is due Monday. “I’ll go get it.”
“Okay, but be back soon, it’s almost curfew,” Grier says.
“Don’t worry, I will,” I promise. I leave the common room. The dungeons look creepy at night. I’m on my way to the library when the bell rings. Oh no, it’s curfew! I get my book and walk back, stopping on the way to look out a window at the grounds. They’re so pretty at night. There’s movement in the corner of the window. I study it in the window. Then, I fall to the ground, stiff. What just happened?
