(Time skip brought to you by turning off the Light)

It had been about 5 months since I had arrived in Japan and met Light. Awhile after we first talked, we realized that we had quite a few classes together, so we started socializing with each other more than we did before. I even got to go over to his house a few times to hang out! Though I'm kind of glad he hasn't asked to come over to my place yet, since I wasn't ready to have any visitors yet.
"Hey, Truth!"
I spun around to come face to face with the brunette himself. He chuckled at myself which I responded to by huffing.
"You shouldn't be sneaking up people, Light. Especially me! You know how much I dislike it."
"Ok, ok. We should get to class, it starts in 4 minutes." I nodded in agreement and we headed off.

(Another time skip brought to you by Light's ((almost)) perfect IQ)

I saw Light waiting at the front of school, as per usual. We had started walking part of the way home together, since we lived quite close to each other. As I walked over to him, I noticed he was a little tense. "What's wrong," I asked.
The turned to look at me. "Oh! I just forgot that I left something inside my locker, could you ware here for me?"
I tilted my head, wondering what he had forgotten. I shook it off. 'I guess even Mr. Genius himself can forget something one in while,' I thought to myself, trying to hide the giggles coming out of my mouth.

Light's POV:
It seemed like Truth had believed me, which was good, though I still felt slightly guilty for lying to her.
I had seen a notebook fall from the sky earlier, during class, which I'm pretty sure no one else noticed. 'Please let it be there,' I prayed.
I soon spotted the notebook on the ground, laying in the open. I had reached down and grabbed the book. I took notice of the words on it.
'Death Note. That's an odd name.' I opened the notebook, and saw that it apparently had 'rules' written in it.

Truth's POV:
'What's taking him so long?'
Right then, my eyes caught sight of Light. I ran over to him. "What took you so long," I pouted. I really hated waiting, even though it was necessary at times.
All he did was give me a grin and say, "Just had a harder time finding what I had left. Now, let's go home before it gets late."
I sighed, knowing he was right and that it was pointless to continue this conversation. "Also, you're parents could get worried, since you usually get home at about this time, right?"
I forgot to mention that I hadn't told him about my situation yet, so he didn't know about the events that had occurred back in America. It's probably for the better.
"Yeah, they might. Let's get going."

Light's POV:
I reached my house, mumbling under my breath, "I'm glad she didn't pry."
It seemed that no one was home at the moment, which was good for me.
As I reached my room, I opened my backpack and took the Death Note out of it, placing it on my desk. I sat down and opened it.
I had decided to wait until I had gotten home to read what was inside.
'I might as well look at the rules on how to use it. Even though this is obviously a prank.'
"Let's see... The human whose name is written in this notebook shall die. This note will not take affect unless the writer has the person's face in their mind while writing his or her name. Therefore, people sharing the same name will not be affected."
'These are some strange rules, even for a prank.'

I continued reading. "If the cause of death is written within 40 seconds of writing the person's name, it will happen. If the cause of death is not specified, the person will simply die off heart attack. After writing the cause of death, details of the death should be written in the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds."
'This is pretty detailed for a prank, I'll give them that.' I sighed, standing up to go look out my window.
I then plopped myself on my bed, having my hands go behind my head.
"So I write a name and that person dies... like anyone would believe that."
But I couldn't help being just a little curious.

I swiftly moved over to my desk again, grabbed a pen and opened the notebook. The pen was now hovering over the empty page I had opened up to.
'Wait, on the off chance someone really dies, would that make me a murderer?'
A thought for a moment before letting out a sigh.
'Yeah, right. It's completely impossible.'
I decided to turn on the news to see if there were any people I could test it on.

Soon enough I found live news broadcast, where the reporter was talking about how there was an assailant who was taking 8 people hostage, both children and teachers.
They soon brought up who they confirmed the assailant to be, 42 year old Kuro Otoharada; currently unemployed.
Without hesitation I started writing the assailant's name in the notebook before making the decision to let him die of a heart attack, in 40 seconds.
'Let's see if it actually works,' I thought to myself as the broadcast kept on going.

It had been 40 seconds and nothing had happened yet. 'Looks like the notebook doesn't work. Oh well, I didn't expect it to anyway,'
I started to stand up from the chair I was sitting in and I had taken the remote to the small television in my room to turn it off before the woman on the screen said, "Wait, we're seeing something here! Looks like movement at the front entrance!" The  male reporter spoke again.
"The hostages are coming out! They all look to be unharmed! The special forces are taking action. They're moving in. We don't knowing the suspect's been arrested... huh? Yes? Ok, we now have confirmation!" The words that came out of his mouth next made me go stiff.
"The suspect has been found dead inside! I repeat, the suspect is now dead!"

(Damn, over 1100 words! Sorry that I'm publishing this chapter after midnight! I'll try to get the next chapter done on time. Thank you for sticking with me so far!)
(Peace out,
