For the rest of the week, the only times I left the house were to go to school, and pick up the mail as the book Devon lent me had me engrossed in all its twists and all its turns and all its surprises and all the deaths. Eligathy seemed more real to me with each chapter I read. The desire to travel there grew and grew, and Devon had gotten tired of me talking about it as if it were a real place. But to me it was.
One morning when I was in my room reading, I heard a knock on the door. I thought it was just a random neighbour, until I heard a knock on my room door.
"Come in." I said, expecting it to be my aunt, but it wasn't.
"Hey." I heard Devon's soft voice and spun my chair around quickly to face him.
"Hey." I said.
"Anthony and I were going to go to the mall right outside of the community and we were wondering if you wanted to come. My mother would be the one to bring us. She's speaking with your aunt right now. So do you want to?"
I hadn't finished reading my book yet, so I really didn't want to, but he came over and asked and got his mother to talk to my aunt about the outing. I would have felt really bad inside if I didn't say yes, so I did.
"Okay. Alright. I actually didn't fully think you would, since you aren't finished with the book." He said.
I found that a bit rude. I knew how to make a sacrifice.
He quickly apologized. I guessed my facial expression had said enough to him.
"So I'll go downstairs and wait on you to get ready. By the way, after we go and walk around, we will then eat, or whichever way it is going to go. Then we are going to watch a movie then eat dinner then come back." He smiled which then made me smile.
I got changed into some going out clothes and I opened the little drawer on my nightstand to find a suitable bracelet to go with my outfit. The green-gemmed bracelet that I had kept from way back when, stood out among all the jewelry that was there. I picked it up and placed it against my blouse and walked to the mirror. The colours matched.
Before I thought about what happened the last time I wore the bracelet, I put it on and went back to the nightstand for a watch to put on my other hand. I soon was fully ready and I was downstairs just fifteen minutes after Devon had left my room.
My aunt was still in a conversation with Devon's mother and they seemed to have enjoyed each other's company. My aunt told us to stay safe and when we were leaving, she gave me a little kiss on my forehead. I said bye and we went outside and into Devon's mother's car. We drove to Anthony's house to pick him up and then we continued along that road to get out of the community.
It was my first time going to that mall and I was genuinely excited. When we got there, I had to stand up at the car for a moment to take in the beautiful outside.
"Come on. Inside is even better." Anthony said and he and Devon walked off towards the inside of the building, leaving me with Devon's mother.
"You have to be careful with that bracelet. You don't know what harm you are attracting to yourself right now. And you haven't started training yet." She said confusing me for a little while.
"It's just a regular bracelet." I said.
"Expected. Where did you get it? You're not supposed to have one yet."
I felt bad having to say that I kinda had stolen it, in a way.
"When you put it on the first time, something happened." She said and I wondered how she knew that. "It happened to all of us. And will happen to all of us, until you learn how to control it." She said.
"This is crazy." I said, then started wondering why it had not happened again since I put on the bracelet that day. Was it because I had not gone to sleep?
"I know it seems crazy. It did to me when I started. But it was all meant to happen. Only those who are meant to be hunters are able to see the bracelets. As well as shapeshifters, djinns, nymphs, elves, fairies, etc., which is why you have to know how to use it, if you are going to wear it. Your father has agreed to allow me to train you, as a few djinns have been spotted around the area and we suspect that the portal would be somewhere close by. I have the bracelet you were supposed to get, but I guess I'll just have to keep it for someone else since you have one already."
"What portal?" I asked as what she said had just registered.
"The one to Eligathy."
