"But that's where the Djinns are coming from." I said confused.
"That's also where our parents and the others are working to destroy the portal."
They had started to destroy the portal before Devon had travelled to Eligathy to retrieve me. It was an awfully long process to destroy a portal. I thought all they needed to do was break the closet, but I then learnt that if they broke only the closet, the portal would have no longer been confined to a small space and would grow and continue growing eventually sending all of Earth to Eligathy, which would have not been great.
Devon and I went inside house number six where we followed chanting voices to the room where the incantation was taking place. We stood outside of the room as we didn't want to break their concentration, but that would have been difficult as their eyes were covered by white cloths matching their outfits. The closet stood in the middle of the circle that was formed and I could partially see a drawing on the floor that the closet was mostly blocking. Then I heard a door open.
"Sounded like the front door. Come on." Devon said.
"Towards the sound?" I asked.
"We have to protect them while they destroy the portal."
We quietly walked towards the door and when we saw three men walk inside the house, we moved back. I recognized one of them as the man who was trying to kill me in the bookstore at the mall.
"Follow me." Devon whispered and led me to a small room and handed me two knives and took up two for himself.
"So we fight?" I asked.
"We have to protect our parents and the others, so yes. There's an enchantment on the room they're in to keep them safe, but we don't know how long it would last, so we have to keep the Djinns away for as long as possible."
We walked out of the room and instantly regretted it. They spotted us. Evil grins came across their faces and we started to run. They followed us. We led them outside where there was more space to fight or run.
"Just give up! You are no match to us!" One shouted.
"You don't even have your little bracelet." The one from the bookstore said and the last one stayed quiet.
"We will never give up!" Devon shouted.
"Have it your way." The third one said and they charged at us.
"Hold your ground." Was the last thing Devon said to me before we were attacked.
It seemed unfair as we were outnumbered. But nevertheless, we put our all into the fight. Well tried.
The first one shook his hands and long claws appeared, just like Jalin. He ran at me and I dove out of his way. Using his claws against the ground, he slowed himself down, spun around and charged at me again, but I wasn't lucky enough that time. His claws jammed into my leg and it immediately felt numb. I couldn't get up off the ground. He laughed at my discomfort. I started crawling away, but he dragged me back and soon he was above me gripping my neck.
"I wonder how I'm going to kill you." He said.
I was extremely terrified at the moment. But then his grip loosened on my throat and blood drained out of mouth unto me. His heavy body then fell on me, but was soon pulled off. I looked to see what happened to him and a knife was sticking out of his lifeless body. Who did that?
"No one will kill the love of my life!" I heard and looked in front of me and saw Jalin.
How did he get to Earth?
I looked over at Devon who had already badly wounded one of the men he was fighting and moved to the next. The fight got intense and I so badly wanted to help but I knew I would have made things worse, so Jalin went to help instead. He took the knife out of the attacker he had killed and threw it into the chest of the one Devon was fighting. Now injured, he staggered backwards, but didn't fall. He dragged the knife out of his chest.
"Thanks." He said and threw it back at Jalin who shifted it quickly.
Devon pounced on top of his attacker, pushed him down and his head hit the ground really hard as he had started to bleed. Devon continuously delivered blows to his head until his face was covered in blood and he had stopped moving. Devon got off him and walked over to me.
"You okay?" He asked.
"Yeah I'm good." I answered.
"Okay. Just making-" He stopped talking and soon blood started draining from his mouth.
He looked down at his stomach, so I looked down too. All I saw was blood, blood on his clothes, and on his hands, and a sharp metal blade sticking out of his stomach which then receded and Devon fell to the ground revealing one of the three attackers, the one from the bookstore. He stepped towards me and smiled showing blood-covered teeth but then fell to the ground as well.
Tears filled my eyes as I crawled to Devon's motionless body. Jalin must have noticed my sadness and walked over to try to help.
"It's alright." He tried.
"It's alright?! It's alright?! My friend here, who I care about, is not moving and you think it's alright?!" My emotions got the better of me.
Soon my father and the others walked out of house number six. They must have finished the spell. My father saw me and a huge smile came across his face, but it quickly disappeared when he saw my tears.
"Devon! Oh my God!" I heard Devon's mother scream as she ran over to us.
She grabbed his body and saw that he wasn't moving and that only made me cry more.
"What happened? What happened?" She asked but I couldn't answer her as my emotions had blocked my words.
"We need to get him to a hospital!" She screamed.
Three of my father's teammates hurried over and carefully lifted his body and walked to a car far up the road. I tried to get up but my leg was still numb, so I couldn't do anything but crawl. My father noticed this and lifted me into his arms and walked with me to another car.
"Is the portal destroyed?" I finally got some words out.
"Yes." He answered.
