My Foolish Empress

Chapter 4

I was sitting on the chair, wearing the empress attire while the maid handled my make up and tying my hair.

It finally the day of my coronation as the new empress.

Looking myself on the mirror, i was stunned how different i look. I looked better compare to my usual image.

I was lead to a pond where only available during the coronation of empress by the maid and eunuch. There were bridge between my location and to other side. The eunuch explain to me, i have to cross the bridge alone to complete my coronation. I nodded as reply.

As i stepped onto the bridge, i was greeted by the sight of emperor in his royal attire, the minister and the emperor other wife and the end of the bridge. His majesty has blank expression plasted in face. While, half of the minister and the other emperor wife was giving death glare toward me. I got stage fright from their stare.

I looked back but the eunuch and the maid urge myself to walk foward. I gave another glance toward the end. Seeing the emperor, instantly i felt serene. Other completely vanish from my line of sight.  I smiled as walk step by step toward the emperor.

End of the bridge, i try to give my greeting to his majesty but i was to rush in my movement causing my feet tangled and i fall directly flat on the floor,  in front of him. He still has his blank expression but i knew he was shock by my careless mistake. 

I was utterly embrassed by the accident, i stuck lying on floor for 60 second before i pulled myself up. I try hard not to cry and ruin my make up. The maid put hard effort in making me look presentable.

My nose was bleeding from the impact. Yet, his majesty put no action in helping me getting up. I can see the emperor other wife was sneering by the accident i just involve.

I rose up and wiped my bleeding nose and give another bow to him and also apologize of my carelessness.

"I will send royal doctor to check up on you... " He spoke after long silence.

I nodded as reply.

He officially end the ceromony and disband the gathering. While, i was lead by the eunuch and maid to my new home, the empress quarter.

Emperor arrives 5 minutes later with a royal doctor. The royal doctor gave me short check up before announce i was only suffer minimal injury.

The royal doctor soon dismisses.

"You only going to stay temporarily in the empress quarter before you will be moved again... " He began.

I feel depressed hearing the emperor word. I reason his word that i did careless mistake during the coronation now he was going to be punish me and sent to cold palace.

But my mood lifted up when he said i will be moved near his quarter so he doesnt have to travel far to meet me. I was happy his majesty wish me to be his side always.

"Yes, your majesty... " I replied.

"Also... because you are my new empress, you also going to be my son new mother... " The emperor added.

Again, i nodded.

"I will cherish him... " I smiled.

The emperor was silent.

"When will i be moved the new place?..." I ask.

"Today..." The emperor replied.

Completing his word, a black clothes masked man suddenly appear out of nowhere.

"The quarter is ready, your majesty... " He kneeled beside the emperor.

The emperor waved his hand and the man again vanished.

I look around the room but no trace of the man around.

"Finish your tea,  we will be returning to your quarter... " The emperor spoke.

I quickly gulped my tea.

We exited the room together.

The eunuch and maid and followed us from behind. Seeing the emperor up close, i feel happy. I unconsciously smile. I wish to hold emperor hand but i feel it too early for such action.

The emperor was polite enough to send me to my quarter before proceeding to his own quarter. I realise he just lived next door.  The emperor told me my adopted son also live in same area but he wont disclose the specific location.

I bid his majesty farewell when he walked away from my new home courtyard. Unfortunately, i didnt receive farewell back from him. 

I entered into my new home. Silence invite me. Compare to my prev home, my new home was bit spacious. The furniture was brand new. I find myself few set of brand new and expensive clothes inside the closet.

Next morning, i was greeted by small group of maid standing outside my quarter.

"Empress, have your highness had woken up?... " I hear their call from other side of the door.

I got up from the bed before receiving their call.

They entered into the room, two of them diligently setting up the table while the other two attend me in helping me washing up and dressing me. I felt uncomfortable being helped washing up so i dismiss their help, only ask their help in dressing me up and dealing my hair.

It been a while i woke up without have to prepare my own meal. As i eat, the maid stand in line by the corner of the room. I offer them some the meal but they refuse by saying their already had their fill. I still feel bit reluctant so i ate slowly.

"Are four of you send to serve me?. .. " I began conversing with them, avoiding the awkward silence.

"Yes, empress... " The maid wearing pink dress replied.

"There also another two of us also serving empress...they help empress in caretaking empress son... " The maid wearing teal green added.

Hearing the maid, i remembered i havent fulfil my duty as mother to my adopted son.

"Can i meet him?... " I asked the maid.

"Meet?... " The maid acted confuse.

"Can i meet my adopted son?... " I rephrased.
