Freshmen year had just begun and we were still chummy with each other. Okay, so maybe I had a little thing for the guy, but it was nothing serious like that. Quite frankly, I just wanted to get in his jeans. And I'm pretty sure he knew at that point in time. We were hanging out at the friday night varsity football game with a few friends. After mischievous walks around school halls and playful flirting, the friends we were with informed us that they needed to go to the bathroom. They were both females so that meant Steph and I had to wait outside.

We went and sat on this set of bleachers that was tucked on behind the bathroom. I began to think aloud and before I knew it I had mumbled "I just wanna be cuffed." Immediately afterwards it fell quite, even through the monstrous cheering from the crowd. I looked over and unintentionally locked eyes with Steph. He began to lean closer and closer to my face, not dropping an ounce of eye contact. We were inches away from each other.

Then it clicked. I've been in this predicament before. Years ago, at that football game. Memories of everything that happened since then flooded my brain like the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927. I couldn't let myself fall for another mistake so fast and so easily. My reflexes caused me to slap the car horn with only seconds to spare.

"Okay!" I said abruptly, pulling away from his intense stare. "You gon' pass it or what?"

"Yeah," he said in a slightly discouraged tone. He passed the wood over to me and looked out of his window. Did I just stop us from potentially locking lips together? Maybe. Did I want to kiss him? Possibly. Did he deserve it? Ask me on February 30th and we'll see what I say then. I wasn't going to give into his bullshit that easily.

I puffed on the blunt as I skipped through the songs. We couldn't have anymore close calls. I locked my phone as Hurricane by The Click filled the car.

We talked about nonsense as we finished both woods. My conscience had officially passed Cloud Nine and was on its way to the heavens. I checked the time and saw that it was 7:47pm. I was about to say something when I was rudely interrupted by my stomach. I had to admit, after two woods, I felt like I could eat a 15 kiloton atomic bomb.

"Jeez, I guess I'm hungrier than I thought I was," I said in astonishment. I threw my head back in thought. I tried to think about what I wanted to eat but I didn't have to think for long. I could hear a cheesy Baconator from Wendy's calling my name from the distance.

"Do you like Wendy's," I asked, turning my attention to Steph. He was just as baked as I was and didn't even realize that I had asked him a question for a second or two.

"Huh? Oh yeah, I like Wendy's."

"Are you ok?"

"Yeah. What's with all the questions?"

"Anyways," I chortled. I grab my keys and started up the car. I made sure to roll down my windows just in case. I always try to lessen my chances of going to jail. I decide to leave the playlist on so I wouldn't have to try and change the song during the drive. As I pulled off, I noticed I felt a little bit different about Steph. I still was seeing red about the past, but he seems to have changed. He definitely does still flirt a lot but I think he just does that subconsciously. Once a hoe, always a hoe. Also, this time he seems to be mature and chillax about things. Maybe it just comes with time. I could be overreacting which I tend to do a lot. Who knows.

Is Quinton overreacting?

Should he give Steph another chance?
