"Help!" Maddi cried, banging on the door. "Please, let us out!"
"Let us out!" I screamed, throwing myself against the door. I slammed my shoulder into it again and again but it didn't budge. Giorgia started kicking it but she didn't help. Smoke started coming up under the door and it started growing hot. I ripped the towel each from the wall and started bashing it Ito the door.
"Stop, Wyatt! You'll only make it worse." Aunt Jess said as she pushed a wet towel I go the gap under the door.
"Guys, we could climb out the window!" Giorgia cried.
"Are you kidding? We're like, twelve metres up! We'll die if we fall." Jessica cried. "Do you see any other options?" Maddi asked, already half out the window. "Good point," Jess replied.
Maddi eased herself onto the ledge beneath the window and muttered, "what I wouldn't give for Rapunzel's hair right now." Then she grabbed a drain pipe and swung around so she was hanging from it. She started half-climbing-half-sliding down the pipe. When she had reached the second floor, Jess climbed out.
I waved Giorgia out and she grabbed the pipe. She waited until Jess and Maddi were almost at the bottom of the pipe then she slid halfway down it. She slid a little more and climbed the last couple of metres to safety.
I could hear sirens in the distance and realised one of the neighbours must have called the fire station.
"Come on, Wyatt!" Giorgia screamed. The door behind me exploded, sending sparks flying. A massive wave of heat hit me and I gagged on the smoke. It was now or never.
I spun around and lowered myself out of the window. My feet found the ledge and i clambered along it, grabbing the water pipe. I swung onto it and started climbing down.
Smoke poured out of the window and flames licked at the sill, peeling the paint. I pushed myself down the pipe and sighed as I took a deep breath of fresh air.
My moment of happiness was disrupted when I heard a crack above me. I looked up in horror to see the pip coming unattached.
"Climb, Wyatt! Hurry!" Aunt Jess called as the pipe started peeling away from the wall. I pushed myself down faster, letting myself slide once I reached the second floor.
The fire fighters arrived as I reached the second floor window. They started spraying jets of water up into the burning room.
Water from the top of the pipe dripped onto the part I was holding, and I started to slip. A pair of fire fighters brought out a massive trampoline and held it under me.
"Jump, kid!" One of them called. I was about six metres from the ground. I clambered down a bit and the pipe leaned out further.
"Come on, jump! We'll catch you!" The second one called. I looked up to see the pipe coming unattached right above my hands. Without thinking, I pushed off the wall and fell.
The wind rushed around me and I closed my eyes. Then everything went black.
