Despite Tao usually going every where by car or taxi so that he didn't have to deal with people, we ended up taking a walk through the city to get to the café we first met at.

I wanted to do something a little special for him since he's always seemed to do things for me, even if they were indirect. I was also hoping to test him a little bit, but my plans were cut short.

We were side tracked by an old client of mine, an idiot at that, and the tone changed quickly when he started getting violent. I was able to take out the two guys that came at me with my martial arts expertise, and the threat that my butterfly knife possessed was enough for most to back off, and it shocked the offender before me.

Tao stood a few feet behind me, but he was still in easy range when he pulled out a gun.
"Are you insane?!" I quickly hissed, glaring at him, "I told you my business with you was done!"
"I am owed!"
"If anyone is owed anything, it's me! You still have a debt with me you bastard."

"Chiyo." Tao spoke from behind me, and my eyes moved for a second just to show him I was listening, "What on earth have you gotten yourself into?"

"Shut up." I grumbled, taking a small step back, "This guy is high as fuck right now. Let me guess! You used the information I gave you to go and fuck someone up and stole all their money just for drugs, right? Typical."

"You bitch! That's it!"

I moved to block Tao and threw my knife as hard as I could at the same time. My knife hit his arm and he dropped the gun, but not before firing.

I fell to my knees and could hardly keep the rest of my body off the ground. My head lowered and I pressed it to the cold concrete, but it wasn't enough relief, and my right hand clutched my left arm as I let out a scream from the building pain.

"Hands in the air!"
Did Tao contact the police? I wondered, Thank god.

I let the rest of my body crash onto the ground, and I popped an eye open to see Tao roll me onto my back, one of the officers claiming he was calling the ambulance.

"Chiyo? Chiyo, talk to me!" Tao yelled, his voice raised.
I coughed, just groaning in response. I tried to form words, really, but it wasn't really working out for me.
"Where is the bullet wound, kid?" A deeper voice asked.

I moved my shaking hand, grumbling that I wasn't a kid, moving my jacket to reveal the wound in my shoulder.

"Alright-"
"OW!" I cursed, my jaw hardening as the officer pressed a cloth on the wound a little too hard, but what else could I expect, they had to stop the bleeding.

Man, don't most people just pass out or something in these times? I wondered, hearing sirens in the distance.

Sighing, I opened my eyes slowly, trying to breath through the pain, and I looked at the sky.
"T... Tao..." I whispered.
"What is it?"
"Sorry."
