Malorie |
August 28, 2019Malorie thrashed around against her pale yellow duvet. She felt herself sweat and pant as her body jerked up as she woke from her nightmare that she can't seem to remember depth about but she did remember small pieces like Myles's bloody face as he pulls her out of something burning. She sighs and rubs her forehead as her eyes gloss over as she grips her knees and lays her chin on them. Malorie decides it is time to get up.
She stood up and departed from her bathroom strolling to her closet, deciding on yellow sweatpants and one of Myles's oversized grey sweaters one of his favorites the one with the little astronaut panda embroidered on the chest pocket. She sniffed it remembering all the childhood memories of running around the house playing tag with her younger brother. Malorie made the mistake of looking outside feeling as though her eyes might burn the intense glare of the sun beaming into her retinas. She could feel the waves of blistering heat hit her already, and she hadn't even left the house yet. She takes a deep breath needing a minute to recollect herself before she went down the staircase. She doesn't need her mom and dad worrying about her or Myles. She wasn't even sure they cared about Myles. She was almost sure her parents were happy with Myles's sudden "disappearance" but, she wouldn't dwell on that new depressing thought as she strode down the stairs with a somber smile plastered on her face. She frowns greeting her older brother Mason and she shoots a glare at her life-givers, her mother Julie, and her father David. Julie speaks first breaking the tension.
"Honey..don't tell me you're still upset over Melanie leaving?"
Malorie held herself back from speaking her mind in fear she would have to deal with her grandmother later. Instead, she decided to provoke her mother by correcting her.
"Mom it's Myles and you know it ever since he came out to you. I don't want to argue right now I just want my little bubba back and if none of you understand that you can go fuck yourselves!"
Malorie raises her voice at her mother knowing the consequences beforehand she did it anyway trying to provoke the mean-spirited blonde she once called her mother.
"You can stop with all that cursing darling. It won't bring her back. We can only hope she's okay someplace that will discipline her from her ungodly behavior"
Julie sneers at her daughter as she stirs her strawberry margarita, glancing at her son and almost giggling.
"Mom don't talk like that you birthed him. He came from you. How can you act that way towards him? He's missing for fucks sake and seems like no one fucking cares!"
David stepped into the argument, he pushes his disheveled brown hair out of his face clearing his throat
"I think that's enough hun, no need to be so harsh on her or talk bad about Mel's business even if we don't agree with it."
Mason chuckles softly from his seat on the opposite end of the table. Malorie sits down and grabs an apple out of the fruit bowl as she plugs her headphones into her phone listening to a random song she watches her parents argue ignoring their yelling she blasts her music in her ears. She hops up wanting to hurry to school so she can get away from this animosity-filled house.
"I don't suppose any of you care but I gotta go or I'll be late."
Malorie bobs her head up and down as she grabs her skateboard and walks out the door. Malorie drifts down Monroe Avenue the air making her long brown hair furiously dance in the wind. Malorie swerves around the cars on the street. Malorie thrashes her head around as this moment's music station came on as she glances around at her suburban neighborhood. Malorie was enjoying the scenery she almost forgot she had made it to school, she stops, kicking up her skateboard to catch it. She walks inside her hell Rockwell Manson High School. Her worst nightmare on top of all the other stuff going on in her life, school is the worst place to be right now. Walking inside Malorie glances around at the tall grey lockers and the masses of students socializing, she feels her body almost shrink inside itself feeling out of place as she walks down the hall missing her little brother there beside her to make her at least feel a little less anxious. She makes eye contact with Nicholas as her breath hitches and waivers. Her eyesight unfocuses as she starts breathing heavily, she swears she could hear people whispering about Myles and how the people think he offed himself. Malorie slouched against a locker trying to catch her breath as Nicholas approaches her bending down to soothe her.
"Come on, breathe It's just your head playing tricks on you okay. Everything's okay, I'm one hundred percent sure Myles is somewhere with some girl."
Malorie's lip quivers as she hugs Nicholas a little too tightly.
"I genuinely missed you tiger"
she looks at Nicholas smiling as the bell interrupts their little staring contest.
"see ya later Diaz"
Malorie let her fingers linger on his arm a little too long before she let go. She heard Nicholas stifle a laugh, knowing what she was doing.
"Honey I'm sure if I were into you I'd be swooning right now but see ya dollface."
Nicholas walks off towards chemistry as Malorie laughs feeling herself almost return to normal heading to Ms. Rainez's art class ready to begin her investigation.
